pratice? what should do? yeah you really need to improve your English!Good luck! Are you male or female? that's the question you will get most on this post, and are you a hottie?
I'm English major student.I want to make more foreign friends and pratice my English. What should do?
If you want to make English speaking friends you have to look up 420 friends.
420 is a code word.
English speaking people are rated "4"
Chinese speaking people are rated "2"
the 0 mean no charge!

You have two options - the direct way and the indirect way.
The direct way is that you post an ad on this site looking for a language exchange partner. Set up a time and meet then see how things go. I did this when I started studying Chinese and are still good friends with some of the people I met.
The indirect way is to hang around places where there are foreigners and try to strike up a conversation with them. The problem is that many Chinese that try to do this just end up being annoying because it's so obvious all they want to do is practice their English.
Try to remember that the emphasis should be on "friend" not "foreign". Friendships take time to form so you need to take things slowly. If you hang around a Starbucks you'll start to notice some regular customers. Say hello a couple of times and after that try striking up a conversation. Don't ask them a bunch of questions when you first meet ... foreigners consider that very rude.
YJC and wuchen - Another option is to go the English corners at the universities, the biggest one at RenMin university 7pm on Fridays, near the east gate.
There are unfortunately (for you, not for me) mostly Chinese people there, but everyone is speaking English. The good thing, compared to chatting up random people on the street, is that the foreigners that are there are there to actually meet people and make friends.
The best way though, is probably to go to 外国 where they speak 外国语言 natively, because then you need to learn it.

haha. thanks, i was joking.
You don't want foreign friends?
i think friendship should happen naturally. i dont want to deliberately seek it.
Don't be direct that you want to practice English, and instead go more towards that you want to have a new friend. It's annoying if a Chinese just comes up and demands a free English lesson, but it's cool if you just go and say hi, and if it becomes difficult say you are no good at English.
Go to places that foreigners hang out that you actually have some interest in.
The Chinese friends that I have made are people who share common hobbies or interests with me, not just people who want to practice their English and not just people I want to practice my Chinese with.
There are many groups and clubs in the city- look at the expat magazines to find some that might interest you and go check out a few. There are groups who go on hikes, groups that practice acting, groups that talk about politics- groups for pretty much any interest you might have!
But be sure that you choose things you really like! People will not like it if you just go to practice English and don't have any real interest in the hobby.
Btw I find it unacceptable and not polite, when random Chinese people come along and try to start a conversation with me in English. This country's languages is Chinese, so no matter what, speak Chinese first!
If your alter ego is not able to, switch over to English. They won't loose face by doing so.
Exactly,I agree. I have hire a nice Canada tutor Micheal via a training school. Thus, I can practise English by my style and my interest.
Actually, Micheal is so nice guy. He said that he likes this learn-style in a training school more than in priavte place.
So far, I can understand.
Practise language is different from making friends. Pls pay attention to this point if you only want to learnning language, Chinese!
Decent Chinese is friendly if you can distinguish from one's action.Good luck!
Yes, it is a quite good way to practise languages and get konwing the different culture how to make friends.
My first netfriend is a Paris guy, then a guy in Nicy,France, subsequently, an American guy in Boston.
After that, I caught an oppertunity to work in Doha. I learnt Indian English, Arabic English and British English in person.
For now, Back to BJ and work for a US company. Thus, English communicstion is my hobby as I like different culture. It always makes exciting time while I talk to my foreign friends. Simultaneously, help them understand Chinese.

Re: Make Foreign Friends
Remember to emphasize the A sound in "Halloouw" say it really loudly and then grin like a 5 year old and run away. We foreigners love that.
(Brian starts singing)
Stewie : Hey, who sings that song?
Brian: James Taylor.
Stewie: Let's keep it that way.
