Not a big surprise.

I used to work in Chinese public education.

Chinese students barely have any time for friends, family or personal interests. No wonder many of them become depressed and fail because of it.

I haven't seen one single plan or measure in Chinese education to help troubled students.

Any foreign teacher in China who gives a f*** about people, knows how thankful Chinese students are when you listen and take them seriously. Because noone else gives a sh*t.

Chinese education (teachers, principals) just doesnt know that they're working with people. They cant' see the difference between a school and a factory.

No wonder students here feel like sh*t.

I can't read the article but I know how bad the situation is here. No time for anything but study and homework. Next to that Chinese parents get their kids all the extra curricular activities they can find/afford. A day off simply doesn't exist for 90 percent of Chinese pupils ever. Last week a 12 year old girl from one of my classes came back after a week in Hong Kong with her parents. I asked her how she liked the place and she told me she didn't see much of it since she had to do 6 hours of homework every day that her regular school had provided her with. Lovely.

Stewie : Hey, who sings that song?
Brian: James Taylor.
Stewie: Let's keep it that way.

What they should have taught but never did:

1. How to express oneself properly, communicate with others and socialize.
-- That is why a great propotion turn out to be social retards.

2. Basic ethics as a social member or citizen.
-- e.g. "You will be severely punished if you cheat in yr exams, because it is against the school regulation." --not because it is bad moral or you can't cheat your way to a life long success.

3. Independant thinking.
-- That's why students of all levels always hand in compositions with similar thoughts and wording.

Re: source: 100000 Beijing post secondary school student ...

If I faced years of Chinese education followed by little to show for my efforts I'd kill myself just like all those Chinese high-school girls do.

Totally understandable.
