The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
That's the thing I hate about TBJ restaurant reviews, you've always got restaurant owners plugging their places and giving crappy reviews to other restaurants out of spite/jealousy.
There's nothing wrong with Annie's as a restaurant. It does not claim to be "authentic Italian".
It's clean, the staff are courteous, the prices are reasonable and the food is simple and good. They do quick delivery and the food comes in very nice little plastic containers or on a proper dinner plate that you can keep.
So in my opinion "chaoyangman" and "bellaitalia" are competitors.
There's absolutely no reason to give Annie's a one star review.

Yeah bellaitalia sounds like a real whore lol.
chaoyangman's review was a one liner.
Fine, if its his opinion but he should explain himself.

Chaoyangman's reposted the review that was deleted because it didn't contain any info, just a one-star "downgrade". He thinks we have an "interest" in Annies. So which one of you is Annie? I walk her dogs.

I agree with OP. Let's get a posse together and go trash their restaurants. Maccherena and Mosto will be burned to the ground!

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
that's a good point about pizza, remedy. I mean, sure, there's great pizza and sh*t pizza, but only a world class tosser would claim the dross served in Pizza Hut etc isn't actually pizza. It's sh*t, but it's still pizza. f-ing stupid wogs.
And the pizza at Annies is pretty decent. Not great, but good. I've had a lot worse.

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
Thing is, I've been to Italy. And a really nice pizza from a little trattoria in Italy isn't that much better than an average pizza. It's still a flat piece of baked dough with sauce and cheese and sh*t chucked on top. Similar with pasta.
There are dozens of restaurants in the US that serve Italian food that's every bit as good as Italian food in Italy. It's just typical of these hysterical f-ing wogs to get all pretentious and defensive of their own cuisine as if it's so damn sophisticated and complex it takes a lifetime to learn.
The fact is, "Italian food" is an amalgamation of recent introductions to Italy. Risotto, pasta, tomato sauce, etc. were all brought to Italy from Asia and the new world in the last few hundred years. There is nothing about Italians that makes them masters of the relatively simple techniques and ingredients they use in their cooking.
huh?
Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
Annie's is adequate at best. For no-frills, run-of-the-mill, American-Italian it will do the job. Though I have had some inconsistent meals there where the quality and portions varied wildly. I stopped going, I found it wasn't worth it.

Ive never been to annies, but once i ordered their veggie pizza. Soggy, no sauce, couldnt find my apartment, 30 minutes late. I believe that Annies is gross too.

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
That's because you live 30 minutes away, but you order delivery from them anyway, and you live in an extremely difficult to find hole-in-the-wall crap apartment that most people couldn't find.

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
Actually, I live in the San Li Tun area. I think most people have heard of it, and they got directions... 3 times... Also, it was 50rmb (?) for what is essentially a large saltines cracker with some ketchup smeared on it, a little bit of subpar cheese, and veggies that you would find in a salad, not on a pizza. And, why is me living thirty minutes away relative to it being thirty minutes late?

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
actually i love annie's but i have to agree with justinm that their veggie pizza is a sloppy, disgusting mess.
the margherita and the pepperoni are good tho

Haha
I like the review, remedy.
Ok, so maybe their vegetarian pizza is crap (never tried it), but who orders vegetarian pizza anyway?
Everything else I've tried on the menu has been decent-to-good.
How else has the restaurant survived, thrived even, while others have struggled and failed?

Eh, if yu live 30 mintues away, it's going to take that long to get there. I live 2 minutes away, so it arrives as soon as it's ready.

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
People complain about soggy pizzas. If they are soggy, filled with tasteless tomatoblend, has little or no cheese and is repeatedly either undercooked or burnt then I am pretty sure they qualify as "authentic Italian pizza". Belive me,, I've spent 2 months backpacking in the country and didn't have a good experience with ordering pizza in any of my 10 or so tries in 10 different cities (yeah I know,, I should have learned the lesson before 10 but I am not a big pasta fan so pizza was tempting and I kept hoping it would improve the next place I went).

Can't understand why a veggie pizza would sound snazzy in the first place. Usually veggies are meant to support the main toppings, not be the main toppings. So what are these mysterious salad veggies on the pizza that disgusted you? Tomatoes? Onions? God forbid a f-ing mushroom!

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
When I can't be hassled to cook for my kids, Annie's is always a safe bet. They've always delivered super-quick to both places I've lived in BJ. We always order the same things and they are consistently fine. Saying that the food isn't "authentic Italian" or ok for people who don't know "real" Italian food is just one of those little pretentious nuggets some people like to throw around. This is usually the same person who likes to opine "Stephen King,(or any other commercially successful author) books are for people who don't read books."
I'm glad I'm secure enough in my mediocrity to enjoy curling up with a copy Children of the Corn and an Annie's pizza.

AWESOME post, waitaitai, I loves me some Annie's and Stephen King as well.
Although Children of the Corn was a short story... not an actual book.
I just finished re-reading "The Stand".

@ldsilver: right about Children of the Corn, but with 3 kids it takes me longer to skim the China Daily than it takes most people to read the Iliad.

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
what i find interesting is the content of said reviews.
the people giving Annie's a pass or good rating explain in details why they do so, what they've eaten there, etc...
the naysayers stick to the same story without explaining the basis for their low rating

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
Thats not true, I told you, it was gross, soggy, no good flavor, late and there was little sauce.

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
Hmmmm...
Interesting points, good one badr.
But Justin, you have to admit that 30 minutes traveling distance (providing good traffic) and the time the guy took (maybe his fault, maybe your crap Chinese) to find your place would negatively affect the quality of the food.
Compared to me (ten minutes away at most) and the remedy (2 minutes) who receive much fresher food.
Also, a vegetarian pizza is not a good delivery choice. Lots of vegetables mean a lot of extra water that will seep out and spoil the crust, water-down the sauce, etc.
Also, I alluded to the fact you were a vegetarian in the post in which I called you a liar, which I apologize for. I was still hungover.
Give annie's another try at the restaurant.

Re: The people giving Annie's bad reviews: Competitors?
This is from the recent 3 star review:
Ok...this should be good. Why isn't it Italian? What exactly is Italian, and why doesn't their food qualify as Italian? How can they compete and win awards as an Italian restaurant? Maybe you can suggest a new category...maybe "Kinda Sorta Italian"?
