Where can I get a haircut by someone who speaks English?

Hello everyone. Canadian ESL teacher, one month in Beijing, can't speak a word of Chinese. Can anyone who's lived here for a spell tell me where I can get a haircut by someone who will understand me?
I did the long-haired hippie thing a few years ago, and that stage of my life is over. I'll be here for at least another eleven months, so at some point I will need a haircut... but I don't want them to screw it up because of a miscommunication.
If you know a place but think it's too expensive, tell me anyway. I'm more afraid of being misunderstood than I am of being ripped off.

Gracias

England

(Brian starts singing)
Stewie : Hey, who sings that song?
Brian: James Taylor.
Stewie: Let's keep it that way.

It's actually not too hard. Haircut is fa xing I think, chang is long and duan is short. Gen duan is shorter. It's only hair after all,, it will grow out again and usually the guys or girls know what they are doing.

First time I went there that was all I knew and it went smooth.

Canadians ALWAYS do that.

"Hi, I'm Canadian and I want to know: what's the weather like in Beijing in August?".

Oh CANADIAN? I'll definitely answer your question then. Allow me to roll out the red carpet I have on hand for whenever a maple-leafed backpack comes into sight.

I wasn't going to answer your question about hairdressers because I assumed you were an evil American. But now I know your one of the good guys!!! Lucky you mention that to everyone all the time!!

It's good to know we're on the same page Count Zero. So do you know any places?

Re: Where can I get a haircut by someone who speaks ...

Nah, sorry.

I’ve had some shocking China haircuts to be honest.

These days I just say “bu yao tai duan” (not too short) and keep repeating that.

It doesn’t cost much to have a cut so you can just go back a few days later if they’ve not taken enough off.

But I don't understand why you don't just print out a photo of Owen Wilson and say jiu zhe yang (like this).

Thank you!! Angel

Re: Where can I get a haircut by someone who speaks ...

I don't know any haircut Chinese, when I first got here I just pointed and grunted. The guy figured out what I wanted and did a good job. I have been going there for over two years and never say a word. I just smile, sit in the chair and the guy cuts it the same every time.

Today I walked over to discover the haircutters has closed up. The guy is gone. Don't know any English speaking haircutters, I will have to find a new person to grunt at tomorrow.

dude stay clear of silkywave, she's batshitcrazy.

now most of the nicer places, will have a catalog with hundreds of pictures (which they will present to you once you tell them you're a canadian), you can just point at the one you like (of course the final result will not be the same as pictured, but this is chinaaaa! don't like it, go home)

Toni and guy at oriental plaza (and soon also the village?) will be your safest bet for a successful haircut.
