Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

I couldn't find NHL 2009 hockey in Beijing, so I got my friend to bring it with him back from Canada.

He just got here, and I tried the disc and it said something about the Xbox360 being the wrong region to play the disc.

f***!!!

Is there anyway I can play this game? It shows up as "NHL 2009" on the green screen, then when I try to load it, that devilish red screen with the region info pops up.

It reads the disc, just won't play it.

Am I completely f***ed on this game? I just paid 60 dollars for it.

Aier? Ultrageez?

Anyone?

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

Obvious first question:

Does it say PAL or NTSC on the box?

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

It says "NTSC" on the top right corner of the box.

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

Help!

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

I'm not seeing any reason for it.

The only thing I can think of is that your chip needs to be turned off before you can play legit games.
Should be a switch.

I have actually seen that game around though, at the now gone place.
Will report back if I see it again.

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

"This disc's region code is incorrect for this console."

After searching around the net for awhile, it seems that this is the case with all xbox 360s.

Only games made in Asia will work with an Asian xbox. Games from North America, Europe, etc, won't work.

I wonder if I can get someone to rip me a disc of this game that will allow me to play it on my xbox?

This is so f-ing gay... I've been waiting for weeks to play this game and when it gets here... sh*t.

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

Damn.

that sucks man, I had no idea.

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

Me neither.

The thing is, I stupidly assumed that a legitmate game bought from a store in Canada would work anywhere.

After all, I had previously bought games in Canada I couldn't find in China for my PS2, and they worked fine.

Oh well, live and learn.

There is apparently a hack, but it involves cracking into the xbox and doing some soldering, which would probably not end up well for someone as technically retarded as I.

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

Just get the ripped game, I'll let you know if I see it again.

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

I'm looking specifically for the "EA" made hockey series.

Thanks aier.

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

So in actual fact in this case, my case, Microsoft is actually encouraging me to buy pirated games.

What little business they could expect from me, the customer, has gone completely out the window.

What possible benefit could having region restrictions on games bring them?

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

ye old piratebay B)

US&A =/= amerikkka

Re: Problem with playing genuine xbox game from Canada

Yep asia has NTSC-J xbox, US and Canada have NTSC-U, and Europe got PAL.

Yes, the solution exists somewhere to go through this problem and change the region of your xbox, it's not easy and since it only happens to 0.0001% of the people, well it's even harder to find someone who knows how to do it. And by the way you would not be able to play your previous china bought games after changing it.
