Freelance writer- How can I get a Z visa?
I have had the misfortune of working for two consecutive companies that assured me of getting a Z visa to only later admit that they were actually unable to hire foreigners, meaning that I have been on an F visa for quite some time know. I have decided to quit my job and stay home to focus on my writing. I will be doing freelance writing and subbing to pay the bills. So the question is; how do I score a Z visa on my own? I am very unclear on how to start my own company in China, as I continually get contradictory information. I've got to get something sorted by the 23rd of July. Any ideas?

Get a job as a part-time english teacher. Most schools know how to get you a Z visa.
Work as few hours as you can.
23rd of july is pretty tight. Z-visas are a bitch.
Starting a company that would be capable of obtaining Z-visas is not easy, and certainly cannot be done in a month.
Sometimes I feel it is maybe unbearable always be traditional Chinese girl.

True, but in theroy, freelancers are supposed to set up their own (albeit one man) company, which entitles them to get their own Z. Otherwise, how would you pay the taxes on the income generated by your business?

That's just it. I want to set up this one man company, or even two man, as my fiancé or her family could help, but I can't get any solid answers as to how to go about it. Obviously, I can get another type of visa while I sort this out. Any info on the one man track coeurdelion?

One year Z visas are something like 8000 RMB a year for the first year and then 4000 - 5000 RMB a year after that.
They're probably not strictly legal as you are supposedly working in some company you don't actually work for.

You have different options to set up your own company - make it a representative office of an already existing company (the fastest), set up a company in HK and then register a branch here (fast, but more costly), or set up a WFOE here in China (the option that gives you the most freedom, but also the slowest). Generally speaking, you're not allowed to generate any income with a rep office and won't be able to write any invoices in RMB.
There are a number of guides on the market, some free, some more expensive - get one of those at the Bookworm and look into these issues. You'll also have to check if you're allowed to invest capital in this area of business as a foreigner or if you need to have a Chinese partner. It's alright to do all this research on an F or L visa as long as you can prove you're in the process of setting up a firm here. Once you have your business license and appoint yourself as the Chief Representative, you should be able to change to a Z visa even without leaving China.

Re: Freelance writer- How can I get a Z visa?
Setting up a WFOE would be your first hurdle and use a consultant to do it to speed up the process. Then apply using an agency for a Z-visa.

Setting up a HK company is really easy, just need you to create ur company an available name, and provide copy of your passport then ul get all documents back in 10-15days.
And setting up Representative office of your new HK company in Beijing takes long time n of course more documents, as long as u have all documents required ready, it can b done in one month.
