Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Why do they make it so weak? I usually drink foreign beer but today I just grabbed a few bottles of Yanjing from the little nong shop under my building because I was hot and feeling sick from the pollution, didn't feel like trekking to the supermarket.

It's f-ing 3.6 percent. That's disgraceful.

Why do they choose to make it so weak? It can't be because the Chinese can't drink, they drink bai jiu which is like 60 percent.

I hate it. Yanjing tastes ok and it's dirt cheap but at 3.6 percent it's impossible for me to get drunk.

In Canada the standard is 5 percent, and we have plenty of beers that are stronger.

When I lived in Poland, they had all kinds of beer up and around the 8 percent level.

Why China? Why?

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Yup! I complain about it all the time too. I've even seen 2% beer here...

Some of the Yanjings are 3.0%...

Tsingtao tastes a little better and is 4%....I get cases delivered to my door for 1.8rmb/ for .6 liter bottles

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Is this revenge for me hitting on lodgerly?

You jealous bastard.

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Some local beers in southern China are around 2%.

You always hear that the southerners can't really drink, but a friend from Wuhan can drink me under the table, so who knows.

MAybe I can't drink.

And what's it with all these ugly apes?

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Yeah, Yanjing is like a better-tasting version of Coors Lite.

Even the black/"dark" beers are pretty weak too.

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

admin, you altering my account by changing my avatar to an upside down monkey makes me feel violated. It's an abuse of power and privacy, like you were in my bedroom sniffing my underwear or something. I preferred the question mark avatar I had before.

The strongest Chinese-made black beer I've found is called Blue Label and it's 4.3 percent.

Sadly, even foreign beer like Carlsburg is only 4.3 percent in China as well. Budweiser is a measly 4.0, making it the same as Tsingtao.

It's like they are censoring our beer as well.

The result is that I supplement my beer drinking with shots of rum, so in reality China is contributing to my alcoholism with it's weak beer.

Shameful.

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Oh no...it's like Blue Ribbon or something... and I think Yanjing Dark is only 4.0.

You might not think it's significant, but when you drink 8 or 9 beer, it adds up.

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Um.. what's with all these monkey avatars? What did I miss??

Remmy be pimpin' in BJ, yo!

Why China? Why?

Well I drink LiQ which is low but a excellent session beer.
China drinks more beer then any where else in the rest of the world, but it would with its population size.
Where as strong beer is good could you imagine the trouble here if every one drunk strong beer.
The beer is just like a compliment to food, where in the west its a means of getting smashed out of your head so you forget how sht the country your in. Hence all the riots out side the clubs every Friday night.

My other half on piss weak Chinese beer f*** s me stupid, on rice wine she beats me stupid.
Thats why beer is weak and the women avoid rice wine.

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

I don't know why would one drink chinese beer.
I stopped 1 year ago and now every time i'm drinking one i'm having the hangover effect without being drunk.

Chinese beer is crap, full of chemicals. Water and Chemicals.

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

How dare you talk badly of my beloved Yanjing.
Mmmmmmm, Yanjing, teacher, mother, secret lover.

Sometimes the same is different, but mostly, it's the same.

You have a point there. That may explain why I get that burning sensation in my stomach after drinking Chinese Beer sometimes. I will just have to stick with scotch.

I agree. I only drank half a bottle of the stuff last night and poured the rest out. Just tasted wrong.

No more Chinese beer for me!

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Re: Why is Chinese beer so weak?

Most american and mexican beers are about 4.5% IIRC

Snow Select is 10%, and I think I've seen a few other Chinese beers that are also.

Yanjing is weak but they come in bigass bottles.

Snow Select is 10%? Where can I buy cases of it? I checked Jenny Lous online and they don't have any Snow

I believe you've gotten the sugar content (the rating in degrees) mixed up with the alcohol.
