Photography Club

Hi all

Does anyone know if there is a photography club in Beijing. I am thinking of something quite relaxed, maybe just a few people meeting up at the weekend for a bit of a wonder around to take some photos?

I know there is something similar in Shanghai, but have not been able to find one in Beijing.

Thanks!
Stu

Re: Photography Club

I looked around for one a while ago too and didn't find anything. If you're interested in taking some photos some weekend send me a message.

Re: Photography Club

Re: Photography Club

Hi everyone,

We are starting a professional photography school in Beijing with our office and campus in JianWai SOHO (near Guo Mao and YongAnLi MRT train stations)

We also intend to run it like a clubhouse or meeting place for photographers, with small informal gatherings now and then.

Drop us a note if you like to volunteer to run a committee or be part of the action Smile

cheers,

Hi,
Would anyone be interested in attending a photographers networking evening? Zen Foto Beijing is a hutong photography gallery and would like to build up a group of photographer friends. The evening would be a chance to show your works through short powerpoint presentations and discuss photography.

Re: Photography Club

Hi there!
Are people still interested in a no-fuss-just-fun urban photo safari in Beijing?
I've just arrived and would like to meet like-minded friends. PM me if you're interested, I'm available in the morning weekdays and during the weekend of course.

Re: Photography Club

Hi all,

I'm a long-term resident of Beijing and used to be an avid photographer... I lost my photo mojo a couple of years ago when the city became a bit of a cliche to me and am now trying to get back into it.

I'm willing to organize some meets and I also know cool excursions out of the city to some of its more far-flung interests, so that's a possibility if people are interested.

So, something simple to start with: how about Qianmen this Saturday at 10am? We can check out the touristy new main street if you haven't seen it before - but the old streets that still stand around it are the main reason to go there. I'll be under the gate at the north end of Qianmen Dajie at 10 waiting for whoever wants to come... if you can, PM me before Saturday if you're interested.

Pull your pants UP! U SAGGIN'!

Re: Photography Club

Two more meets are coming up!

National Center for the Performing Arts (aka The Egg), Thursday September 15th, 6.00pm.
This is not a ‘walk’, just an opportunity to meet up at this amazing building and share tripods and tips on sunset/night photography. Don’t be late or you risk missing ‘blue hour’, the best time for stunning night photos!

Wangjing Art Districts, Thursday September 29th, 11am.
I’ll show you two of Beijing’s best photography galleries: Three Shadows in Caochangdi, and Paris Beijing in 798. Then we’ll take a photo walk around 798.

http://www.parisbeijingphotogallery.com/main/index.asp

I’m unable to run this walk on a weekend this month, but please let me know if you’d like to do this on a Saturday and if there’s enough interest I’ll try and schedule it again in the near future.

Coming Up in October:
More night shoots
Autumn at the Summer Palace (I promise this one will be on a Saturday!)

Everyone is welcome, no matter how what language you speak, what camera equipment you have, or your level of experience. Please send a mail to bjphotowalks@yahoo.co.uk if you’d like to join us or need more information! Or join our new Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/BJPhotowalks.

Re: Photography Club

Just to bump this thread... hope to see some of you lucky photographers who don't need to work this Thursday on the Art Districts photo walk! We'll meet at 11am at the 798 south gate on Jiuxianqiao Road.

Sanlitun Village and Soho

Sanlitun Village and Soho Photowalk

Meet outside Uniqlo in The Village at 3pm.

Most of us are probably often at The Village, but, rushing from restaurant to bar, rarely see what's around us. This walk is a chance to appreciate the modern architecture of The Village, Village North and, across the road, the newly-opened Soho.

Bring your tripod if you want to take photos of the lit-up buildings after it gets dark.

Also in October: Summer Palace (date to be confirmed).

Re: Photography Club

Just a reminder of our photo walk this coming Sunday (October 9th)... it's a chance to photograph the buildings and people of Sanlitun Village and Soho!

Meet outside Uniqlo at 3pm. Hope to see you there Smile

Re: Photography Club

Hi,

I am interested in getting involved in some of your projects during the weekends. New to Beijing so any and all exposure to the city is good for me!

Cheers,

Re: Photography Club

Beijing Photo Walks run informal, relaxed photo walks around the city. Everyone is welcome, no matter your level of experience or what equipment you have. It's just a chance to get together somewhere interesting with people who enjoy photography!

Our next walk will be on Saturday the 22nd October, at the Summer Palace.

There's a lot to see here, so be prepared to do a lot of walking if you want to see everything!

We'll meet at 12.00 midday inside the North gate (Beigongmen). To get there, take subway Line 4 to Beigongmen Station and the gate is a few meters straight on from the exit (signposted from inside the station).

There are two types of ticket. Just for the park is RMB30, and a through ticket (you can see everything) is RMB60. The extra sites the through ticket gets you into include touristy 'Suzhou Street' (a mock up of a river town) and The Tower of Buddhist Incense, which is interesting, and with some great views. So I suggest you get the through ticket, but of course, if you don't want to, there are other things to see while you wait.

You might want to bring these things with you:

- comfortable shoes
- warm clothes
- a tripod if you're staying after dark (though if you don't have one I'll be happy to share)
- a torch if you're staying after dark (areas around the lake are not lit but are pretty cool at night)
- food (unless you're happy with snacks like pot noodles and those hot-dog things)
- a guidebook if you're interested in the history of the place

As the Summer Palace is so large, we won't be able to see the whole park on this walk. The only parts we'll miss out are the southern and western parts of the lake, which are parkland, but very pretty, so if you want to see this area, you might want to go earlier. We will probably go the western part for sunset shots, though, if people would like to. Sunset will be around 5.30.

Don't forget to join our Facebook page if you haven't already! (www.facebook.com/groups/bjphotowalks)

If you have any questions, or would like to join the mailing list, don't hesitate to email me at bjphotowalks@yahoo.co.uk.

Hope to see you on Saturday!

Re: Photography Club

Hi,

I just arrived to Beijing and I also want to know if someone knows a photography club in Beijing for discovering the city and its surroundings.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Photography Club

Ermmm, I think from their postings, it would be safe to assume that Beijing Photo Walks is a photography club.

Our next photo walk is Saturday November 26th to Niu Jie Mosque and the surrounding area.

This is a fascinating area, and has been the Muslim centre of the city for over 1000 years. There are also two temples, Changchun Si (Temple of Eternal Spring), which is small, but we'll pop in, and Fayuan Si (Temple of the Origin of the Dharma), which is the oldest Buddhist temple in Beijing.

We'll meet at Changchun Si at 1.30pm. The total walk, including temple visits, will take about 3 hours, so we'll be done nice and early for those of you who may have delayed your Thanksgiving celebrations to the weekend.

The nearest subway stations are Changchunjie on Line 2, or Caishikou on Line 4.

Here's a map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=niujie+mosque+beijing&hl=en&ll=39.894921%2...

Changchun Si is at Changchunyuan, just above the A marker (the mosque), on this map.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Re: Photography Club

Any (pro) Photoshop users here who want to share some techniques?

Re: Photography Club

Hi mvanheusden,
When you mention Photoshop expert, Adobe ACE comes to my mind. They're certified by Adobe to be expert not only in PS but also in all things Adobe.

Maybe you can google up specifically for your required post-processing effect as there are lots of non-experts out there that might help out.

Beijing Photo Walks run informal, relaxed photo walks around the city. Everyone is welcome, no matter your level of experience or what equipment you have. It's just a chance to get together somewhere interesting with people who enjoy photography!

Our first meet of 2012 (and also the first of the year of the dragon!) will be at one of Beijing's lesser-known temple fairs at Grand View Garden on Wednesday 25th. I chose this one as many of the other fairs are larger, more crowded and less traditional, plus it's in an out-of-the-way corner of the city that I'm guessing most of you never visit!

We'll meet at the south gate at 1pm, and stay for about 2 hours depending on what performances are on. Bring fast lenses to capture the lion dancing and craftspeople in action.

Type "Grand View Garden Beijing South Gate" into Google to see a map. If you zoom out slightly you'll see Taoranting Subway station to the east. From the subway it's a short taxi-ride. Entry to the garden is RMB40.

In Chinese, the garden is Da Guan Yuan, 大观园, and here's the address in Chinese: Xuan Wu Qu, Nan Cai Yuan Jie 12 Hao, 宣武区南菜园街12号.

As usual, please let me know if you're planning on attending.

Looking forward to seeing you there! And Gong Xi Fa Cai, best wishes for the year of the dragon!
