In beijing, there are several art zones, the most famous one is 798 in chaoyang district.Another one is SongZhuang, you can take bus near GuoMao to get there.
And in the Apple community, there is the famous gallery.
And every spring the CIGE(international gallery exhibition) will be hold in GuoMao.
If you are happy to go a few stops further on from 798 you'll find caochangdi. Its not as swish as 798, but easier to navigate with less pretentious galleries and more artists in residence. I recomend rosies art club, its a small restaurant with a chill space upstairs where artists and designers hang out.
there will also be loads of artists and people who like art at the Art Beijing fine art exhibit early next month, its HUGE
Hey kayla, I've been looking to meet a similar crowd of people. Lets talk more and maybe we can hang out and go to some of these places. Unfortunately I don't of anything that hasn't been mentioned above but at least you will have someone to go with.

Dear friend
Because we are have different levels of Chinese language.
So we will teach one Chinese idiom every Wednesday Chinese Club.
So each friend can learn new knowledge every time.
so most of the comments here are crap, sorry. 798 has been dead creatively for years.
Artists, those of us with no money, are attracted to places where things are cheap and localized. Gu lou, nan lou area used to be great but it has suffered post Olympic mania.
Yugong yi shan, 2 koegas, salud, jiang hu, mao, even book worm sometimes are good when the music is right. Repression being what it is, most artists here enjoy sedentary home life but if the music is there most, if not all, of the freaky deaks will come out and play.....
Is there such thing as a "Beijing Comics Jam"? For those who have never heard of such a thing, it's pretty much an informal event where cartoonists and illustrators get together and collaborate. I've been in China for over a year and am starving to meet creative people to collaborate with.
