First of all, it's Farsi/Persian, orginating from present Iran.
Secondly, a better question would be 'how can one tell the difference between Arabic and Farsi?'
The human brain, as you might know, is capable or performing highly complex equations, regardless of ethnic background.
BUT I'm sure you already knew that.

Well... Joepie... It's much different from Chinese. I would agree with Aier2. This script makes much more sense. It is very flexible and expressive. It allows writing in almost exactly the same way a word is spoken. In the dark ages of Europe a huge amount of literature in classic languages such as Greek was translated into Arabic. Most of the Greek literature availabe today has been re-translated from Arabic. It still retains an ancient flavor, which was kept mainly due to the expressiveness of the Arabic language and the flexibility and adaptability of it's script.
In comparison the Chinese script is most rigid. Every syllable of any foreign word has to be Sinocized, so to speak, and adjusted to the nearest character available in the script. But that's only part of the problem. The characters have meanings. So a translated word may sound nearly the same as the foreign word actually does, but may mean a totally different thing. Hats off to the Chinese for their technological advancement despite having such an unsupportive script. Which means they have to work much harder than perhaps any other nation in learning their language.
In short, there is no comparison between the Arabic/Persian script and the Chinese one.
I don't know much of Arabic or Chinese so can't go into the details. May be some of the friends here would like to share their knowledge.
Thanks for reading.

Take THAT, Chinese language!
It's better to be nice, kind, generous, friendly, helpful, sexy and rich than to be obnoxious, scary, stinky, stingy, lonely and poor.

Nope. It's Persian or Farsi as Iranians like to call their language.
Urdu and Arabic also use similar alphabets, with only slight differences.
