QQ problems

QQ is very unreliable.

For instance, sometimes when you try to add a friend to the messenger service it asks you to enter four digits from a captcha but the window with the captcha does not appear. You have to wait a day or two and try again.

The biggest problem I have at the moment is when I try and send someone a message (留信) it always says "对不起非法用户". Other people can send me messages and I can reply to them but I can't instigate. It's been like this for a while.

Any way round this problem?

Oh, one thing I've learned is that you can't use your own photo as an avatar for a couple of months. Then you get a message saying you can, but it only works if you upload a very small picture.

There are ways around it, but you're not Chinese, so you wouldn't understand.

I use my own photo as my QQ avatar, but as far as I remember you have to be a QQ member long enough to do that, oh, and the hours you hang on QQ count, too.

With Chinese Skype I learned that you have to provide your real information (passport, address, phone number) in order to send messages.

Do you have to give out your personal information to use QQ? Do you have to pay for QQ?

And lastly, does it install 3rd party software (search bars, pop-up ads and other junk)?

I am using English QQ 2005 running in Windows XP Professional. When the other side type chinese characters, they are not displayed correctly in the chat window. I can type Chinese characters, but when I hit send, it comes out blank in the chat window. When I view a buddy's info, again they are not shown corectly, because they're in Chinese characters. Has anybody found a fix for this?

u have to change your unicode settings...when i remember right its in control panel > language > advanced
wasnt on a windows machine for long...
qq, specially the english one is poorly coded. thats why there is always problems unless u run a chinese windows

@count-zero
u can always go here to reset the security stop, and the account should work again

i didnt use qq for long.... using pidgin, multi protocol messenger, supporting qq protocol...empathy should support qq too. i prefer pidgin though...
