Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half chinese, half black woman in China

what's more racist: the rantings of the netizens that raked this poor girl over the coals, or the girl herself for feeling the need in her first point of clarification to note that her father is American, not African?

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Its strange, Crystal Kay has a Japanese mother and American father, nobody in Japan has a go at her.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Like I said:

Quote:
admin, obviously the 'netizens' (I f-ing hate that word), because the poor girl obviously felt the need to clarify that her father was American (which he probably is) because she is aware that Chinese people are racist scum.

Dunno, haven't read the article.

As some of you are aware, I have my nong-in-law living with me at the moment. The other day she was watching TV, which is all she ever does, the lazy c**t, and a black guy came on the TV.

She yelled my name, and pointed to the TV, in hysterics. I asked her what was wrong. 'kan nei hei ren. Hao e xin. Hei ren bu hao kan!'

'wei shenme?'

'Hei ren bu hao. zang' (sp?-dirty)

This from the woman who hasn't showered for 2 weeks and sleeps in her clothes.

Quote:
personally I think the mix is incredible. half black/half Chinese.

They're just jealous because she's fit as f***.

And they're racist pigs.

Oh, I've read it now.

One comment:

'f***ed by a black.

How come a zebra wasn’t born…?'

Oh dear.

In what way could she possibly be conceived as racist? For defending herself against the rabid netizens?

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

She's hot!

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Quote:
However in China, this kind of thing is a little embarrassing/shameful

What? In a country where most of the population live in abject poverty, you find it embarrassing that a girl is half-black.

There are far more things to be embarrassed about.

Being Chinese for instance.

it seems that by making the first claim "he's american, not african' she is:

1. misinterpreting the chinese ire as something to do less with race and more with place of origin, when the netizens are clearly insulting her because of her father's color, not place of origin;

2. By reaching out to make this distinction she herself appears to be reinforcing the stereotype that American origin is superior to African origin

Regardless, I feel badly for her. Abused all around, probably hates her mother for it as well.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Yeah, it's pretty sickening.

She's a beautiful girl who did nothing wrong and she's being drug across the coals by the most racist race in the entire world, The Chinese.

How can you suggest she's racist for clarifying that her father is not African?

Clarification : verb (used with object)
1. to make (an idea, statement, etc.) clear or intelligible; to free from ambiguity.

I don't quite see what is racist in correcting people over a matter of nationality. Her father IS indeed american, not african. What's wrong with that ? If a black man from the US tells a chinese person "I'm american, not african", is he racist against himself ? When the girl says "I'm chinese", is she racist against herself for defining herself according to her nationality instead of the color of her skin ? That's a retarded logic.

Chinese "netizens" are racist scum anyway. f*** them. Let them rot in their f-ing hole of ignorance and narrow mindedness.

WHAT?

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

So myself, for example, as a white skinned person, if it was reported that my father was Russian, and I clarified that no, in fact he's Canadian, would I be racist against the Russians?

To me, putting something in numerical order implies ranking:

Quote:
I am DragonTV Angel Lou Jing, and here I make a statement!
1. My father is American, not African.
2. I am a born and bred Shanghainese person.
3. I should not have to bear my parents’ mistake, I am innocent!
4. Sternly but strongly protest some people’s racism, my skin color should not become a target of attack!

If it were me, I would have done it this way:

Quote:
I am DragonTV Angel Lou Jing, and here I make a statement!
1. Sternly but strongly protest some people’s racism, my skin color should not become a target of attack!
2. I am a born and bred Shanghainese person.
3. As a point of clarification, my father is American, not African.

As for her Point 3:

Quote:
3. I should not have to bear my parents’ mistake, I am innocent!

I probably would have dropped that one entirely.

In fact, if you've said 1 & 2, no real need to say 3, is there?

Well, we all know that black people get a rough ride in China, but if you're an African-American as opposed to plain old African, they are marginally, begrudgingly more accepting.

They're a wacky bunch, these Chinese netizen freaks. I'd love to see the scrawny little f***s say anything to a real black guy. I mean to his face, I've often seen them s[the n-word]ing behind their hands with each other.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

I happen to be sitting beside a half black guy right this minute, and he says he agrees with admin.

Just for a point of reference.

He says black Americans are called "African Americans" for a reason, to still distinguish them as Africans first and Americans second.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Hmmm.... Let's try another way :

1. "I'm european, not american".

So I'm a racist and I think Europe is better than America ?

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Christ, the verb to sni gger is censored.

That wasn't intentional by the way.

Though it's mildy amusing that it came about in a discussion about racism.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Hahahahah! Admin, you didn't even need my help to embarass yourself this time. I can't believe you get paid to do this. Amazing!

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

There's some towns up the coast of Western Australia where in the past there were lots of Chinese immigrants working in the farming and pearl diving industries. For a few generations there was a bit of horizontal folk dancing between the Chinese immigrants and the local Aboriginal people.
The result today is some of the most stunningly beautiful women.
The men look a bit ordinary, but the women...

Disgusting comments. Chinese people truly are the most racist in the world. Whole thing makes me feel ill.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Admin your post is not harmonious. Chinese people with their 2,300 year history are certainly not racist.

Ha ha ha, poor girl.

She's actually a chinese person for clarifying that her father is not African. Afterall she was born and bred in shanghai, all she cares about is saving her face by adding the american touch to her statement ... she has a chinese name , which goes with the usual chinese mentality. She's just unlucky.

... nobody cares if shes african or not, btw the netizens are raking at her mum indirectly...

I think that most people born and bred in China will eventually become racist at a point.

I beg to differ.

I said "Netizens", which in my opinion, when applied to China, usually refers to angry young jingoist playing internet tough guys. At least in that specific case, it is. And I stand by the fact that they are racist scum, most of them.

Even if I had said "chinese people are racists" (and I didn't), it could be called a generalization, or a stereotype, not racism. Pointing out someone's racism is not an insult, it's a fact. I'm sorry if you disagree. Racism is wide spread in China, and saying it out loud doesn't make one racist against chinese people.

Saying black people are "dirty" and "disgusting", on the other hand, is.

"Racism" is, nowadays, a word that gets used to easily and applies to almost any negative comment about a group of people. But that's not what "racism" is. Racism is a belief that people from one specific ethnicity are essentially inferior to others. I don't think that's what I've said, so please don't jump to hackneyed conclusions.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

As for the title.

This is no can of worms.
The media and the majority will miss the point entirely, and focus on the girls skin colour rather than what this situation means about them as a whole.

Thing is, this kind of sh*t will start getting noticed by the rest of the world soon.
Will be interesting to see how that turns out for the Chinese.

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

admin, you're way better than this kill this thread NOW!!!!

Like an owl, a bird of the night, silent in flight, stealth like, curious about things but are happy to sit and wait until the time is right to obtain their goals (catch or conquer their prey).

Re: Big can of worms: racism and the experience of a half ...

Why kill the thread? Racism should be exposed wherever it shows it's ugly head. The only way to bring this evil down is to expose it to the world. Admin can be the next Gandhi or MLK for bringing this up.

Wrong again, numpty!

Racism is all about "the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race"

and

"hatred or intolerance of another race or other races."

Christ it's funny watching you fumble about in these little online debates.
