Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

The guy quoted me 1800 over the phone.

Is that reasonable?

Thanks for any feedback.

Do you have a Wii?

Do you enjoy it?

I have an xbox 360 already and I'm pretty happy with it but I'm a video game freak so I want another console.

xbox 360 it aint, but its fun.
just mario kart will keep you happy for a long time i think.
there are some other really fun games to get into but the game catalogue is still not even close to PS3 and XBOX 360.
swinging the controllers around and getting sh*t done on the screen is fun for a while but i find,
i end up liking to play games that mostly make you use a regular way of controlling your character (by pressing buttons and the cross 'analog' joystick i mean) so...

i got mine for 1500.
its been a while so you should at most pay that, if not less.
i got mine with the two wheels, two guns, two controllers and two nunchucks.
plus 15 games for free.
i got about 100 games by now but i mostly play 5-6 of them...
theres a lot of crap on nintendo's catalog...

recommend you get on that 'metroid' train if you're into that kind of games
im waiting for 'the beatles' to come out,
should really be a kick ass game apparently...
ill believe it when is see it...

oh yeah? well, let me ask you this: shut up!

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

oh, sorry, i just remembered i was getting 3 wii's at the time
(for my dawgs, coz thats hows i rollzzz!)...
might have gotten a better deal because of it...
should be around 1500 by now though for sure...
maybe not cheaper than that...

dont get on that wii fit wagon of nonsense.
people who are serious about working out, go out or to a gym or get in a fight
or f*** 3 times a day...

video games are for sitting down, blazing,
turning off the music in the game and putting on your own music and
killing some bitch ass samurais in any and all tenchu games you own in total darkness,
before the woman gets home...
you work out and you work her out (tee-hee?) before sleep
and than you cant wait to get home after work
to get at that sweet samurai beheading you've been missing out all day...
thats what video games are about

seriously, get tenchu...stoners paradise...

oh yeah? well, let me ask you this: shut up!

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Have a Wii, used it for a few months, now it's lying in the small cupboard below the TV set. It was fun for a while.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Yep.

If I don't have blazeables... I don't play games. A few bowls and a few drinks, I'm down for a few hours of games.

Sober that sh*t is boring.

hahaha

I mostly play sports games... can't find my favourite ice hockey on the 360... seen it in stores here for the wii.

LK you rock brother.

Sorry, but I'm no longer based in Beijing. By the time I have my next trip up there you would probably have moved from Wii to Xbox/PSP3

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

So I bought the thing today, two remotes, two guns, two steering wheels and 20 games for 1700.

Damned if I can figure out how to play it properly though... I must be getting old.

I bought an ice hockey game and have no idea how to manipulate my team around the ice...

Too bad copied games don't have instructions.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

hell yeah, you bought one!
bah, you'll get used to it man.
sport games are pretty fun on the wii.
the ones that actually make you move around,
not the ones that just make use of the buttons and joystick,
for those, xbox is still the sh*t, for me.

i got a recommendation,
im into this 'blazing angels' game right now.
its like a flying simulator game of WWII air fighters
and it f-ing feels awesome playing it! pretty damn realistic.
theres about 100 airplanes from the era and
they all handle different and use different arsenal of weapons
and the missions get f-ing ridiculously difficult and loooooooooooong
but it is one of the most intense games on wii by now, for me.
once i start killing some nazis in mid air and watch'em go down, or
destroy battle ships and carriers in a hazing upside down flying style or
f-ing send-in my squadron to finish one group of bombers
while i turn around and go after the carrier...!!!
f*** yeah.
i dont know if you're into war games...especially wwii...
its been overdone i know but,
well worth the 5 kuai you'll spend on it

nice price btw, 1700...20 games...holy china! Surprise
one of the rare gems of living in this hellhole eh? Wink

oh yeah? well, let me ask you this: shut up!

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Haha, thaks L.K., I think I saw that game yesterday, I will grab it next time I'm at the computer market.

I only played a few different games yesterday, unfortunately I got bunk copies of Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Galaxy, but Mario Tennis is pretty good and the steering wheel works well for Need for Speed Underground.

One question for you... where did you place your remote sensor? Is it better to put it on top of the TV or just to the side?

Thanks.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Wii is fantastic, but I expect you just end up playing the same 4-5 games.... and usually just when you have friends over. I borrowed one from a friend for a weekend and got sick of playing it alone after a few hours. Granted, I only had wii sports.... Probably would have been a different story with zelda or SMG Drooling

PS: I'm curious.... for mario kart, which is better, the steering wheel or a gamecube controller?
PPS: Where's your guy located?

Sometimes I feel it is maybe unbearable always be traditional Chinese girl.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

i dont think it matters really.
but for some sport games (like boxing) i think its better on top...
i am about 6.5'' and i dont have a huge space between me and the tv when i play
so i think my hands would be way too high for the sensor to register all moves precisely
if it would be under the tv...
(my tv is also sitting pretty low, almost on the ground...super fashionable girlfriend! Sick )
although it might not matter at all...

short answer, ABOVE.
hahaha

NFS underground!?
no way! the first one?
thats one of my all time favorites on the xbox...
but not NFS 2, NFS Most wanted and whatever crap No. 4 is called...
is it really the first game made for wii?
i must have it!
i actually competed with some guys in that game
for the E3 in 2005 at the staples center.
i would like to cordially invite anyone's ass to a serious,
disgraceful, demeaning, sh*t-talking extravaganza that is,
me, teaching you what that game is all about! Cowboy
(prolly on xbox only for now, since i havent used a wheel on it yet...
eh, f*** it, ON ANY CONSOLE!)
i got me 350$ from it...
it was all spent by the end of the day
on smoking out everyone that let me practice on them for the convention...

eh, its all up to you but if you wanna use a controller why play it on the wii?
the wheel is handling real good though, so, for me, the wheel is better, of course.

and your comment about it only being fun with friends...
thats actually the whole idea behind most nintendo games
and why they have made so much money. more then ps3 and xbox 360.
it makes for a fun night with friends but if you are tired of playing alone,
you're not smoking enough Wink

playing alone not interesting enough?
one word for you.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Chao wai bai lao huai is where I get all my video game equipment, same entrance as Suining, first floor, he's a fat guy, wears his pants pulled up too high.

His number is 13911725730. We call him "pang zi shi fu". He doesn't seem to mind.

I've got got Punch-Out, Metroid Prime and Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess to try out today.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

admin, can you please change the name of this thread to "Best Games and hardware for the Wii?"

Now that I've purchased the thing I no longer want to talk about how much it costs.

I'm playing "Dirt 2" on the wii wheel... it's quite good. Once you get used to how touchy the steering is, you can haul ass.

So far I like the steering wheel. Had no luck with the gun last night but I was drunk.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

yeah, the guns pretty much piss me off!
'brothers in arms' which i loved on the xbox and absolutely kicked ass in,
even on the insane difficulty setting,
i cant even get through the first couple of stages...
same with 'call of duty'...
its f-ing hard getting around and not getting made into swiss cheese by goddamn nazi's!
god, i hate'em! I HATE'EM!!!

recommending a shooter game,
like halo for wii...kinda

CONDUIT

'like halo for wii...kinda' pretty much sums it up.
hard game...especially if you are playing with the gun...

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

I played Tiger Woods golf for awhile last night, it's quite good, you really have to swing the hell out of the remote to get a perfect drive.

Putting is kind of frustrating though.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Regarding the sensor bar location.

It matters.
It should be either on top or on the bottom, whichever you choose: you should set it to that in the Wii system menu.
That may be in Japanese, and the difference isn't massive but there is a difference.
It's the difference of actually pointing at the tv versus pointing slightly under it.

Blazing Angles is great fun.

For the wii I mostly play two player games with the bird.
The game we play the most is Mario Kart, online of course.
Also Bomberman is a good one, also recommend you check out Excitebots.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Conduit is a pile of sh*t.

Seriously, why even design an FPS for the wii?
A genre so heavily dependent on graphics doesn't really fit there.
Though Metroid Prime 3 was great.

I have the Classic controller, it is by far the best control scheme IMHO for Mario Kart. I didn't know the Gamecube controller worked with Mario Kart, I guess it makes sense that it would. I might try it tonight but that controller is wired.
Wires are gay.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

This thing?

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Finally: just want to comment on Dirt2.

Have you seen it on the xbox?, in HDMI I mean.
It's one of the best looking games I've ever seen, and easily the best graphics of any racer to date. Just like Grid before it.

It may be fun to mess with the wiimote but you should really check out the high powered version.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

yes, thats it.

You can play every game Nintendo ever made on the WII (except DS games).

For gamecube and N64 games you will need the Gamecube controller.
For the rest you will need the classic controller.
As in: it's not possible to play them with another controller.

Also the classic is my controller of choice for both Mario Kart and SuperSmashBrothersBrawl.
I think most people find it superior for SSBB.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

Last place I saw Gamecube games was Nanluguoxiang and I haven't been there in ages.
I'm willing to bet your guy can get them for you pretty easily.
Also, these things tend to be even cheaper from taobao.

All the other Nintendo games need to be downloaded, you'll then need to either convert them to WAD files that the Wii can read, or install the homebrew channel and a Rom emulator

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

sorry I should have added:

You'll need an SD card to load all this crap on to the Wii.
If you have a DS then you can use the SD card adapter you probably got with that.

As for the GC controller, I think most game selling guys should have that.
You'll need a gamecube memory card if you actually want to save your game though.

It all adds up to a lot of peripherals in the end.

Re: Buying a Wii tomorrow. What have you paid for one?

I miss the days when all you needed to play a video game was the console, cartridge, 9-inch tv and a controller.
No memory cards, alternative controllers, special wires, secondary console, adapters, blah blah.
Just a nice strong blow into the cartridge to get the dust out and look stupid and you're ready to go.
