passbooks and wiring money

I hope someone can help with this, so here goes.

A friend of mine left a couple of months ago, and asked me to help him out by wiring the money in his accounts back home to him (he had some wages coming in after he left, etc). The problem is this - he has accounts with three banks and gave me the cards and passbooks to two and the card and pin number to one. Obviously, the one with the pin is no problem - I got the money and it's ready for wiring. However, I'm not sure how to go about getting the money out with the other two. Will I inevitably need to provide a passport to get the funds out of the other two, or is there some other way of getting them just using the passbook?

I know this sounds... odd, but there you go.

Can anyone help?
