International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

Hey all, I'm sure someone writes a similar post once every three months or so, but i didn't feel like scrolling back that far.

Are there any foreigners playing in an international chess club here? My understanding is that the ad that I see around hasn't been valid for three years or so about a Beijing Amateur Chess Club.

If there's not a 老外 chess club around, are there any foreigners playing in a Chinese chess club? Or any locals who might want to introduce me to a local chess club? my 中文 is just so-so, so challenges might have to be issued with a glove to the face, but I'm sure I could get by playing a few games of blitz.

Neither? Anyone interested in a couple games? Maybe a little impromptu tourney? I ran a couple round robins back in the states at a high school. If so, let me know. Respond here, or email me: tkgaines@gmail.com

take care

You could just go to a park and find some old men playing xiangqi.... show some interest and they'll probably be excited to play with you.

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

tkg, after putting an add asking people if they know any chess clubs in beijing i saw your posting.
i'm rated life master in the usa and enjoy "talking sh*t" with a real opponent (the social aspect of the sport) instead of just playing on the internet. maybe we can connect and find a club in Beijing together. china has a strong chess team with few GMs that competes in international events and i’m sure we can find where they get together and play.

please forgive wefrucar. he is really smart and i enjoy reading his posts because they show signs of intellect, knowledge and articulation. but as you know tkg, it takes a little above average intelligent to understand or play chess Laughing . wefrucar's comment shows that he is not there yet Rolling On The Floor

sorry wefrucar i like your clear insight into human behavior and motivations but that’s not enough to play chess. you are just lucky that you didn’t say “You could just go to a park and find some old, BALD, SHORT and FAT men playing xiangqi.... show some interest and they'll probably be excited to play with you. Silly chess is really a young man’s game but unlike basketball when we get old, wise, handsome and sexy we can still play and enjoy the game Love Struck

lol, a-hole, I think I'd misunderstood the post
I'll f***in go capablanca on your ass, bitch
Cowboy

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

You see buddy, you are NOT a chess player. If you missed what was said in simple and plane englishi here how can u figure the brilliant combinations that Capablanca used in say…The Kings Gambit? Capablanca would never use words like f***, ass or bitch. in fact chess players act like lip3 but they are genuine in culture and class. in their silence and polite words, chess players say things that would spin a man with average inelegant spin like a mother fu**er. Rolling On The Floor

but I like you because you have shown to be well read, educated and have the capacity to retain and understand what you have learned. however in chess, chess culture and ethics…you are WAY outclassed here buddy. Laughing

tkg, don't you love it when average people wana F*** with chess players? Rolling On The Floor

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

lol, either you're being facetious or you've never played chess in the park with guys on unemployment (if they're even legal citizens) who spend all day every day hussling each other, cussing and smoking.

but no, you're right, I'm not a chess player. I was, though... once upon a time. Deep down, buried in my heart, there is a little 7-year old boy clutching onto a rolled up plastic chess board, and that trophy of a queen piece, with the cruel label, Southern California Youth Chess Championship, 2nd place. "I just wasn't good enough," that little boy says with a tear rolling down his face. "Shut up, kid," I reply coldly, "There's more to life than gambits and indian defences. Like bills and taxes and being boring and soulless! Bah, humbug."
And then we laugh.

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

You are right young man I never played in NY parks but at the Santa Monica Pear. You were really lucky that you didn’t continue the game when you were 7 because the voice inside was right. Chess can consume too much of your time missing other beautiful and challenging parts of life. but winning the 2nd place in southern California (whatever age) is impressive. I don’t look at chess as a professional sport. I think chess is best played as a side recreational game.

My studies and work were in math and computer science so I got as much challenge and more than I could handle. I’m now just an old handsome and sexy man that likes to dance, get laid and have fun by pondering over the board of life. B)

I’m glad that you understood my sense of hummer and laughed. i would have been disappointed by you if you would have taken what i said as insults Angel

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

I'm a fan of chess as well and play it once in a while with my friends. However, do any of you know where to find people who play backgammon? That is my game of choice. It features the right mix of luck and skill to fit my fancy.

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

Hey KC I will play you on yahoo chess some time and kick your sad Islamic ass.

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

in a lot of these internet chess sites people use their computers that plays better than a GM. I can play with my own chess master program and don't have to go on the internet. there are also people as well that come to just enjoy the game they play and not their computers.

Meeting people in person talking, and playing chess or backgammon can be very healthy and enjoyable.

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

Hey guys,

I use to play quite often way back in the hayday, nothing special maybe 1500 at peak but now just a washup. I have a set but no clock. Would love to play some blitz, 15 mins or even longer, doesn't matter.

Essentially would love to place perhaps once a week at say a Starbucks (Lido or Wangjing would be great).

Casual nothing too serious, probably bring back some bad memories of my hatred for d4 openings.

But now with the summer a lot of people back in their country for holiday...

Re: International Chess in Beijing non-existant?

I used to play about five years back; if there's some kind of chess club please do let me know. (I make no promises about being a decent player!)
