Movie Recommendation Thread

This is the funniest movie I've seen this year! Unimpressive cover, stupid name, never heard of it before. But, man, I completely laughed my ass off from beginning to end. There are so many great lines, and the cast is terrific. Like a hard-core 80's movie.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

This is a great thriller with a terrific twist. My girlfriend- who doesn't scare easily (Halloween, Friday 13th etc. never bothered her) screamed out loud several times. Watched it twice already.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

This one is a love it or hate it movie it seems. Me, I loved it. Again, great twist and you'll probably want to watch it twice if you enjoy it.

Link broken but I see it's for "I love you, man." Yeah, liked that one. Jason Segel(sp?) is great as the friend.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

Those were quite good.

David Koechner's funny.

This wasn't half bad (Koechner has a small role)..

Yes, silky, it sure does.

It's the most bestest movie of all time!!!

Second most bestest?

Titanic!

Number three?

The English Patient.

And for fourth, it's a tossup between Rambo's 2 and 3!

No.

That would be Arnold Schwarzenegger, the great Belgian actor.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

Hey Remmy. I have seen a bunch lately, so I'll just list them without cover art.

Dr. Strangelove - old movie, a classic by Stanley Kubric
Spread - not really a good movie, but entertaining if just for all the sex
Star Trek - the new one, it was good
Choke - another good movie, con artist and his relationships with friends and mother, weird but good
The Informers - very entertaining, but kinda f***ed up and depressing
Watchmen - excellent movie, comic book epic
Brothers Bloom - entertaining, but not really that good. Kinda cutesy, good date movie
Year One - comedy with Jack Black, funny movie
District 9 - Good movie but not great, original concept
Terminator Salvation - f***in awesome, action and asskickery
Pelham 123 - cookie cutter action/heist flick
Assassination of a High School President - decent, not great
Clubbed - Decent British flick about a few guys who are bouncers at a club. Far from great, but entertaining

Strangelove: yeah, brilliant. Peter Sellers... what a talented nutjob.
Spread: have it but haven't watched yet. Good title!
Star Trek: liked it a lot but Spock bugged me for some reason...
Choke: same as Spread...
Informers: my man Mickey Rourke.. yeaaaah! Strange movie, yep. In the book there are actual vampires....
Watchmen: LOVED it! Rorschach was awesome~!
Brother...: n/a
Year one: thought it had its moments but a letdown from H. Ramis
District 9: definitely interesting. Liked it a lot until the guy changed...
TS: yeah, pretty great. Loved the bike. Reece was annoying though... they couldn't find a better actor?
P 123: enjoyable enough. Really dumb plan, though. Just sit there in front of the snipers???
AoaHSP: interesting enough...
Clubbed: n/a

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

Terminator Salvation was complete garbage.

The Taking of Pelham 123 was crapola. The original's great, though.

Here's one I saw the other day..

Quite good.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

I don't watch foreign movies here usually. It irritates the sh*t out of me when I get it home and the subtitles are f***ed up, and I can rarely be bothered to check it on the DVD player at the shop.

That said, I recently saw a Norwegian movie called Man of War. It was really good.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

Bette Blue
American psycho
Solaris
Bladerunner
The Shining

in my all time top favourites list.

Haven't watched a great movie recently.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

Apart from ones already mentioned:

Whatever Works- Woody Allen movie with Larry David. A bit schmaltzy, but Larry's excellent as always.

500 Days Of Summer - Another chick flick, not bad actually, and a killer soundtrack

Awaydays - Brit football hooligan flick. Another great soundtrack too.

AntiChrist - Lars Von Trier horror movie. Uneasy viewing as expected from him. Good though.

Not much else recently. Mostly TV shows: Curb, Californication and Sons Of Anarchy.

Still waiting for Inglourious Basterds and Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr Fox. Seen 'em around?

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

I watched inglorious on PPTV.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

Zombieland was OK.

Whatever you guys do, don't watch Paranormal Activity. Laughably bad. And did it already rake in 100 million? What a racket.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

I also recently saw:

Blue Velvet - Old school David Lynch film. Good movie, but quite strange
Knowing - Crap Nick Cage movie
Bruno - Like Borat but not as funny

Bruno: I really liked it... great start and so many OTT moments, particularly full frontal close-up male nudity! Was NOT expecting that! ...it dragged, though, the last third or so.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

Blue Velvet was a bit weird.

Had some big name actors in it.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

By the way the Star channel I get (Chinese one) has a HK movie on late nearly every night now in the week.

They are usually pretty good. Right now is a classic Bruce Lee movie and they are always well subtitled.

Sundays Fear Factor then a pretty good movie in English.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

You mean it's in Chinese language or it's in English but from Hong Kong?

"I am the Imelda Marcos of flip-flops."

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

HK movies in Chinese but they are the classics, usually comedies from the good ol days of HK movies, before Jackie Chan and are very humorous and on Sundays in English.

Hey it is the only English I get on my TV and apart from some international kick-boxing on the Hunan channel (sat nights) it is not bad.

I suppose I should buy a private dish.

Re: Movie Recommendation Thread

What? You get Star World in English or Chinese?
