How much to ask for salary

I have an interview for a senior graphic designer position in Shenzhen Friday. It's a Chinese company that's partnered with a large American company. My Chinese is only in the starting phase and not enough to have a conversation so that will probably hurt me. If teaching positions pay 15k I'm wondering if I can ask for more at a professional job like this.

Re: How much to ask for salary

Hi there,

in general, the position for native English speakers to teach English is out of Chinese lead and that is why you may know some people in these kinda of positions, who might suck and the only "professinal" skills is speaking English, are paid with 15K (per month?). However, I think the situation is changing and not all the schools and colleges are only buying the native speaker's isssue now. So do not compare yourself with them.

for your situation, it may depend on how badly the company need you and how large the company is. If it is a "formal and well organised" one, you may ask the the same paid you could get in the US or eauropean countries, but I think you may get less paid than the amount you ask as Chinese currency is not that strong and lots of Chinese job hunter including me in the market... Plus, you also have to consider the city's life expenses. good luck

Re: How much to ask for salary

The reason why English teaching positions pay so much here is because the locals have no way of competing for these teaching jobs. The same is not true for other "professional" positions -you can try asking for more (or even the same), but I'm afraid you will probably be disappointed.
