Why, CCC, WHY???!!!!

I'm not usually one to rant, but this just pisses me off.

A new 'class' taught at CCC, advertised thus;

Quote:
What is taichi (taichi chuan; taijiquan)?

Taichi (Taichi chuan; or taijiquan) is ancient Chinese meditative exercise for the body, aiming to foster a calm and tranquil mind. It can perhaps be thought of as a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. Taichi (Taichi chuan; or taijiquan) is ancient Chinese meditative exercise for the body, aiming to foster a calm and tranquil mind. Wtf?? How can the Chinese Culture Center, supposed to be one of the best centers of learning Chinese Culture in Beijing, describe TaiJi like that?? At Wits End

Ancient TaiChi was designed as a fighting style, and is still taught as such by qualified teachers. Any teacher claiming otherwise just doesn't know how to apply the martial techniques, so says its just a form of meditation.

CCC should be ashamed of themselves for misinforming and thus mis-teaching, students.

I know it's not a big thing, but because it's important to me, it just makes me angry. Angry

I guess they're trying to appeal to all the cuju moms, who shy away from anything called "martial" but are all over yoga.

Exactly. It's just business, i know. But basically either lying, or being criminally ignorant in the operation of said business...I guess i just expected too much from a Culture school. Sad

Re: Go to Hell, CCC!!!!

I know, I know. It's just that Chinese Culture is important to me.

So many Chinese people scold foreigners for not knowing or understanding Chinese culture. But when it comes down to it, they either abuse that culture, or simply know nothing about it, themselves.

It's one of the few things that actually annoys me.

Sorry for ranting pointlessly. I know nothing will change. Sad

**EDITED - You have very few rights in China actually, with regards free speech. The 'authorities' will control what you say an do, for the most part.

But again, if you want to say something different from the subject at hand, simply start another thread under that title.

As much as it annoys me, I won't leave. It's the culture and my access to it that keeps me here. It's just those kind of people that make that love all the more difficult.

The more they scold foreigners, the less they usually know.
The few chinese people I know who have a truly deep understanding of China's classic culture, NEVER give me any b.s. about how I "don't understand China". They just explain what they know with enthusiasm.

Indeed.

Stupidity I can understand, it's a normal. Not everyone is of equal intelligence. I have stupid friends, and am possibly extremely stupid myself. That's cool.

But blatant ignorance is simply not acceptable on any level, the actual choice to ignore facts or information and remain in the dark is something that should be punishable by extreme face slaps by a queue of people.

In the world we live, there is not excuse for ignorance, and it just really pisses me off when I meet such people. Yes, you find them in every country, but like I said, because of my thing with Chinese Culture, when I meet Chinese people who are ignorant about it, AND they dare try to lecture me about it, I seriously want to be in that face slapping queue.

Multiple times. Angry

Thank God for TBJ world yeah? Otherwise I might have got that queue slapping thing started a long time ago. I know how it feels man. There is nothing more disgusting than someone making an argument over something they know nothing about. Liar

Re: Go to Hell, CCC!!!!

People here fight amongst themselves, but the majority never assume to be taken seriously. They know their full of crap, and talk tongue in cheek for the most part.

But those guys over at CCC are actually trying to teach classes, on subjects they know nothing about.

That's what gets my goat.

That's quite normal HuanChu, majority of people who run the things here have no clue about what they are in charge of, it's just about money, they don’t give a f*** to Chinese Culture or Chinese people. Do you remember the toothpaste saga? The license and permissions were issued to those factories by a "Zhongoua" organization (had only 4 people in whole organization, drinking tea, smoking and charging companies millions of RMBs)

The "You Don’t Understand China and Chinese" is the sad part of the story, it's on the presumption that anybody who was born in China should have (and do have) better understanding of everything here including economy, politics and Martial Art. Under this context a poorly-educated nongmin has better understanding of things here than a scholar who stayed here for 20 years, researched and even thought in universities, just because the nongmin was born here.

You know what HuanChu, you don’t understand China Bro, you’re a laowai Big Grin

The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows

Re: Why, CCC, WHY???!!!!

Just thought it was fair to give a quick update.

CCC actually responded to the comments I posted on their website, and went as far as to rewrite their class introduction to take into account what I had said.

Maybe China is making progress? Thinking

Taiji is a good exercise for old people.

It's better to be nice, kind, generous, friendly, helpful, sexy and rich than to be obnoxious, scary, stinky, stingy, lonely and poor.

Sarcastic? No. Exaggerating? Most definitely.

What Shizo meant was Taiji is an okay exercise for old people.

Re: Why, CCC, WHY???!!!!

Okay, I know that I get too worked up about this issue.

It's just that what the majority of old people do in the morning in the park, in the traditional sense, is not TaiJi. It's dance.

It's like a watered down, soulless version of what real taichi is.

Again, I said above that it's not really an issue to get worked up about. But because it's important to me, it annoys me when it's misrepresented, and causes people to think that it is something only for old people.

Re: Why, CCC, WHY???!!!!

Take it easy, HuanChu. The top goal of CCC is to make money.

If you are really interested at Chinese culture, you could just join one club as local people do and enjoy it.

I just wonder why there are so many organizations in China, providing service for non-Chinese specially: cook course for foreigner, tea show for foreigner, Taiji course for foreigner...even hike club for foreigner. Should "foreigner" be treated specially in China? I don't think those courses necessary, except language course for foreigner. In Spain, foreigner learn Flamenco dance with local spainish together. On Alps mountain, Asian learn ski with European together...Everyone have fun and are not bothered by communication problems.

Foreigner: No, we should all be treated equal!
hanxiao: Ok!
Foreigner: Because all humans are created equal and we should all love each other and live in peace!
hanxiao: Yeah!! Then starting from tomorrow, will you work twice as many hours for half of your current pay?! Will you accept hardcore competition from a billion of people just like you?!!
Foreigner: Hell naw! I'm just gonna pack up and leave then!
hanxiao: *faints*

Around 300 years ago and it counts as "ancient"?

Then the steam piston engine is an ancient relic from Europe, uh?

The difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know, and I couldn't care less...

The answer is simple. They know if they offer a service in English aimed towards foreigners they can charge more and make more money. What, you think they really like us?
