Tommy Gun's frozen burritos
Truth be told, Tommy Gun's frozen burritos are the best frozen burritos you can buy. try them with some salsa or hot sauce. For an even better taste, if you have the patience, cook them in a toaster oven for about 20 minutes at 250 degrees.
You can find them at any Jenny Lu's or most Jenny's. You can also get them at most april gourmet's. If you live near Guo Mao or Shuang Jing, I will deliver personally if you order 5 or more. They are about 20 yuan each (1/2 pound, or 250 grm's).

New cooking method I tried out:
Nuke it till its soft, then fry it up in a wok with a bit of oil. It takes about ten minutes tops and tastes better than the previous mentioned methods.

3 dollars for a frozen burrito? Rip off. You know I can make one at my apartment for less money in less than 10 minutes?

Darn tootin'
Chinr's got everything u need to make fanstastic mexican food on the cheap.
Tortilla's are just dough w/softerner like baking powder or milk, rolled out and briefly fried on a lightly oiled surface. You can do it ur chinese frying pan.
Find a good source of ground beef... or go with chicken (widely avaible). Just fry it up with some veggies, then add water and mexican seasoning (cheap at any foriegn food store like Jenny Lou's/April Gourmet), then cook down to whatever sauciness might be desired. (Chili powder works nice too.)
Salsa: *finely* chop tomatoes, chili peppers, green pepper, cilantro (xiang cai), and onion. Add a little vinegar/or lemon juice, SALT> Utlra cheap at your local mornng market.
Taco sauce.... This one is tricky. I've attempted to make it a couple times but FAILED. Anyone have any luck with this???
Point is, NOBODY should be paying big money for Mexican food in China! It's as cheap as making chinese food -minus cheese, sour cream, avacado or whateversuch other extras you might pick up from the foriegn grocery store. But really you can make fantastic tasting mexican without any of that.

Re: Tommy Gun's frozen burritos
Back in my day, we paid 99 cents for a frozen burrito over at the stop'n'shop. Eight bits scratch a penner, we'd call it. The clerk didn't like us.
I used to pay 17 kuai for a damn decent frozen burrito that suddenly disappeared from all shelves one day. Was that you?

A couple of weeks ago I ate, like, 3 of these in one day and woke up that night with terrible heartburn.
They tasted great though.

That doesn't sound good Remmy, maybe you should go to a..haha...hehe...hospital to get that checked out.
I couldn't see myself downing anymore than four of them in one sitting. I like to space out my food a bit.

Re: Tommy Gun's frozen burritos
I have no idea what is burrito and I never tried it, but I found a kind of similar food sold near a subway station.
It is made like sushi, and the raw materials are:
boiled sticky rice;
crushed dried pork;
sausage;
sesame
etc. it is tasteful

Re: Tommy Gun's frozen burritos
Rob you may be right, but the burrito as most people know it is a hybrid and product of America. The earliest burritos were from northern Mexico and only contained two ingredients: rice or beans & meat. The American burrito is better and ours is an American creation.
If you try it, you'll like it.

Re: Tommy Gun's frozen burritos
b.s.. It's not exact science, you have a tortilla, some meat, cilantro, radishes, lime, maybe some rice,frijoles. queso fresco, add some hot sauce and you have a burrito. The key difference between Americanized vs authentic Mexican food is the ingredients used. If you used canned refried beans, cheddar cheese, store bought tortillas and ground beef of course its going to taste different than the real thing.

Re: Tommy Gun's frozen burritos
Don't get me wrong love both. I'm praying for taco bell to come to China.
You know what a chimichanga is? Its where you take a flour tortilla, ground beef(or chicken), refried beans, and cheddar cheese and form it into a burrito...THEN you fry it! That's the epitome of Americanized Mexican food but holy crap are they good. Throw in some salsa, sour cream and lettuce for good measure and you got yourself an artery clogging good time.
