Good Gym: Hokay (North 4th Ring)

Hi, I just moved to the north 3rd ring road and found a very good gym near where I live. I thought I would let people know about it.

It's called Hokay (浩泰) and the address is Huixindongjie, No.4 (惠新东街4号). It's not too far from where lines 5 and 10 intersect, Huixinxijienankou subway station.

They're a chain and this is their flagship. It's very spacious and the equipment is all new. They have plenty of cardio and weight machines, as well as free weights. There are also two large rooms for classes, and they have aerobics, yoga, pilates, etc. There is also a spinning room. The changing/showering facilities are all comfortable and new. Also, they have personal trainers.

I've never belonged to a gym as modern and new as this one (both in and outside of China) and if it's not already apparent, I highly recommend it.

The rate is also reasonable--1899 RMB for one year. This changes every month and you can probably haggle with them a little on this.

You can call them at 84663550. If they ask you how you found out about the place, you can give them my Chinese name, which is "Yao". By the way, I don't work for them or anything. Just a laowai who's happy he found a good gym in Beijing that's not too expensive.

Yeah, this gym is popular here, sounds like you found a good one. I live in 万柳 and the one here is just so so, dirty dark showers, swimming pool water looks to be a few years old, often the exercise machines are broken, no basketball which sucks for me but it does have some classes and weight room and of course the eye candy!

Things change

I have been a member of the Hokay gym, next to partyworld.

There is an English speaking PT, Wang Luo, and she was really very good and dedicated.

The excercise machine are ok, but . . .

the changing room and showers always smelt like toilet, the ramshacked sauna never worked and when I tried to adress this to the management they were rude and absolutly not interested. As this had nothing to do with there money grubber strategy.

So if you don't mind changing and showering in a toilet after your work out it's an ok gym.
