Dammit, I need some shoes!
Bought a pair of Chuck Taylors from Yashow for 80 kuai, and of course the damn things started falling apart almost immediately. Also not really appropriate for winter weather.
I want a nice-ish pair of shoes for not much money - where to find these? My budget is ~100 kuai, looking for a decent pair of black shoes that will be appropriate for winter (but not boots/stupidly large shoes). Not sure if I want sneakers or something a little more business-like. Suggestions?

Re: Dammit, I need some shoes!
100 kuai is hardly enough to get a pair of quality shoes.
Anything that is both winter-appropriate and professional-looking you buy at that price will fall apart within weeks.
I think shoes are something that are important enough to invest actual money in to make sure you get something good.
But then, I've only ever bought one real pair of shoes in china, so what do I know.
Sometimes I feel it is maybe unbearable always be traditional Chinese girl.

for a reasonable pair that wont fall apart you are looking at least 500+. and the brands we are talking about here , won't even be remotely famous .

I think you could find some reasonable shoes around 200+ in OUTLET STORE,I always buy my shoes there.I don't know which district you are in beijing, you could go to 上品折扣in 王府井、北苑、白石桥etc.
Also 西单购物中心(法雅)in 皂君庙 is really good one.
here is a web link for your referrence

In Beijing it always goes like this, cheap Chinese rubbish, good fakes, medium range Chinese, upper price Chinese (good quality) genuine foreign.
Mean range from 50 rmb to 2000 rmb.
Just make sure you don't mix the prices up with the types.
Generally speaking certain areas are trusted for certain types.
Step 3: I have made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God as I understand Him.

I can help you but your budget is not enough, in 100 kuai i think you not find so stylish and comfortable boots or shoes.I have some pairs but all are high than your budget. So sorry!

You are not going to find real, name brand shoes that are any good for 100rmb. Even fakes often run more than that. One thing I found out quickly when I arrived in Beijing is that things that I thought would be cheap here (clothes, shoes, electronics) are actually quite expensive. I am of course only talking about the real thing, not fakes.
Take a trip to any mall here and you will see clothes just as expensive or more than those in the U.S. I don't know buys all of these expensive clothes but then again there are alot of people making good money here I guess.
Good real Nikes or Adidas are often 1000rmb or more for a pair. Wanted to buy a pair of Levi's the other day, remembered they were not too much in the U.S. and they were good quality jeans, walked into a Levi store here and they were asking 900 - 1200rmb for a pair jeans and they even felt thin as paper, nothing like the ones in the U.S.
Yeah, you can find cheap things here in China, but just remember, you get what you pay for, and if you get it really cheap it is fake!

Re: Dammit, I need some shoes!
Very little of a mass-produced Chinese item's cost is from labor, which means that for every 100 kaui that a shoe goes down in price, at least 90-95 kuai has to be cut out of the materials cost. Cheap shoes here will disintegrate almost instantly. For example, which would you rather wear, a 300 kuai pair of shoes here, or a $45 pair of shoes in America? I bet most of us would chose the latter.
I'd actually suggest going the other way, and spending extra on quality. Labor is cheap, so if you find the right person it shouldn't cost that much extra to get somebody to do it right, and you'll have shoes that you can be proud of, rather than being a liability. I think most handmade shoes are in the 500-1000 range.
