No, but seriously, We'll draw the first 2 matches and need to win the final one, which we'll just about do (Heskey falls over in the penalty area and accidentally bum-knacks the ball into the net).
We'll then meet someone crap in the first qualifying round who we normally should beat and just about will (Ecuador - 2006). We won't find space to fart for the amount of flags of St.George draping from every car/window/orifice, as the tabloids pour out the same '40 years of hurt - football's coming home' jingoist pap-bilge.
We'll then meet the first real decent team, score the first goal but still go out on penalties, (England's Brave) John Terry will cry his little pug-eyes out and we'll welcome our heroes home like champions. This will be because far from being generally shite, lethargic and inept they were actually robbed by some Johnny Foreigner referee who made some (deliberately) bad decision against England to secretly avenge some historical atrocity commited by our wonderful Empire against his nation.
Strangely I predicted this at the beginning of the last World Cup and practically got banned from going down the pub, for being too 'negative'.
We're lucky to be one of the top seeds, so we'll be damned lucky to even get to the Quarter Finals. I was hoping that this tournament might be the one where people actually smell the coffee. Nope - The Sun and News of the World have got seven long months to amp this one up.

USA is not an easy team anymore. England would normally get to the second round but i doubt they'll go further than that. Switzerland might also pull some surprises , they just won the U-21 tournament this year.
All in all the draws seem perfect for a lovely showdown. I hope an African country wins the Cup this time around,at least it would be a consolation for winning the hosting rights. All of Africa's top teams qualified for the finals, cameroun, ghana, ivory coast, nigeria ...but we all know what happened in 1990, England vs Cameroun quater finals match, it's always the referee who does the final bidding. Farewell Africa starts in the second round....Unless SA capitalizes on home advantage to cross the second round...let the games begin.

Italy is in an easy group but look at E to H, the second round would be tough.

As far as boring goes, I think we've finally more or less reached agreement there.
I still have to say that to me, soccer is the worst of the lot, though. Boring to play, even more boring to watch.
Rugby, on the other hand, is lots of fun to play as well as watch. I've given up on it becoming more popular in the U.S., though I don't understand why it hasn't. I played on a college IM team, but very few (none?) U.S. schools have varsity teams. And there will never be pro rugby in the U.S.

Soccer's actually extremely popular now at schools from middle on up to college level in the U.S. It's probably one of the top three or so sports, in terms of players.
But as a spectator sport, it's a bust in the U.S.
