The World's Ugliest Buildings

Longaberger Home Office, Newark, Ohio is considered as the first World's Ugliest Building.

The Ugly Truth:
True, the company purveys handcrafted baskets. And founder Dave Longaberger’s dream headquarters was a replica of his favorite basket. But hey, Crate & Barrel employees don’t schedule meetings in a 10-story sofa.

The rest twelve ugly buildings

I am not anti China. I am just anti ugly buildings. There are many pieces of beautiful architecture in China. Unfortunately too many of them have been destroyed over the past 60 years by the excesses of the communist party.

My personal taste in architecture lies in the buildings erected in the first 50 years of the 20th century.

Yes Longaberger is a real building! I used to work for the architectural firm that did it (no I wasn't on that project team). And I can tell we (arch firm) tried every argument in the book to dissuade Longaberger chairman from doing this thing. No dice. OK, how about leave the "handles" off--also no dice. For other reasons, the arch firm's top management felt they could not back out of the deal to design the building, so... on it went. The Baskethead project team provided a lot of mirth and merriment and joking for the rest of us, heh-heh. But at least at the time it was built, it actually functioned pretty well as an HQ office building. And the company was a good client, as I recall.

However, I've seen a lot uglier buildings than the Longaberger HQ. For instance, the building outside my Beijing window has got to be one of the ugliest in the world. And Chinese cities suffer more than most places from its CEOs, tycoons, government bigwigs, etc. having big checkbooks but very little good taste.

Re: The World's Ugliest Buildings

For me Longaberger Home Office, Newark, Ohio is not the World's Ugliest Building....I do not know why the guys are considering it as the ugliest one...For me it looks great and their is not even a single ugliest thing to be considered...
