A follow up thread regarding the Neostrata thread
I am interested in hearing what both men and women think about skin care here in Beijing, as well as products. Being a guy, I am of course interested in the male focused products, but some companies such as REN and Kiehl's have unisex products we can all discuss.
Here is a copy of what I posted on another thread, but since it was a bit dated I wasn't sure if people were looking at it, and thought it would be useful to start up a discussion on this.
---
I used to buy it, at a department store in Xidan. I forgot the name of it, but it is located just north west subway exit, on the west side of the road across from the Bank of China. It is like a maze in the department store but beyond the cosmetic section and other goods for the female consumers there is a section of skin care products and one of them is Neostrata. I am sure there are other department stores that sell it too. It is sold beside the L'Roche-Posay.
It is quite expensive but worth it. Actually, most imported stuff, of quality is expensive, compared to what you would pay in the respective home country.
I always shop at home or have my family send me stuff.
Also, check the ingredients. Some skin care products are loaded with chemicals we just don't need. Some use a little others use a lot. You can tell by checking where it is located on the list of ingredients. Usually, how they are listed from first to last also reflect the amount of the ingredient is contained in the product. One thing to look for are parabens, which are preservatives. For example, lip balm, Kiehl's #1 has two types of parabens, while FANCL lip balm (stick) and (gel) do not. Most of what I read about parabens is related to allerigic reactions. Other sources, suggest that they can be related to cancer, but conflicting information (especially on the net) makes it confusing. (I am sure there are worse ingredients in cheaper products which haven't built a strong reputation among loyal consumers)
Just remember anything in moderation can be safe, but remember that skin products and cosmetics have parabens in them so depending how much often you use them and the number of products you use moderation might be difficult.
Just a thought.
For men, I recommend Anthony Logistics for Men. Sadly, I am not sure if it is imported here in China, even though some of their products are sold on Sophora's website. http://www.anthony.com/store/catalog/brand/1/
Also, try Kiehl's products, store located in Dawang (though I haven't been there myself).

Re: A follow up thread regarding the Neostrata thread
Well I thought I would add some more to this...I wrote an email to Anthony Logistics for Men regarding parabens and below is a copy of their response...
-------------
Currently, we have not found conclusive evidence in support of or against parabens. Based on our own studies and tests of our products, we would like to assure you that they are safe to use and have been allergy-tested. We are doing our best to reformulate as many products as we can to eliminate the use of parabens going forward without losing the caliber of quality in our products. Our Sport line includes many products without parabens as do several other products in our other lines.
We hope that we answered this question to your satisfaction and wanted to assure you that we take our customers’ health and safety very seriously.

Re: A follow up thread regarding the Neostrata thread
Well, there doesn't seem to be too much interesting in posting thoughts and stuff regarding skin care and the products people use. Maybe I started it off a bit poorly. So let me add some more information on what I use and see if that gets some replies...
I use a variety of products
Face: If I shave, I use Anthony Logistics for Men Shaving Gel and After Shave Balm. Then I follow it up with Anthony's Toner and Moisturizer.
I also use Anthony's Glycolic Facial Cleanser, however, currently I have moved to Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser.
I have found that the most of the Anthony Logistics for Men products have very positive results. Only trouble is with the facial cleanser, that it takes a lot of work to really wash it off the face. The moisturizer I use is their Oil Free Facial Lotion. I used an all purpose moisturizer as well and found it to be equally good for my skin, the only thing is that it had a spf 15, which is good but not really necessary for evening.
The Shaving Gel is superb. I was one of those Gillette Gel guys, thinking cheaper is better. First of all, Gillette stuff has potent smells, and made my skin very difficult to shave. Not sure why actually. I just found that when I shaved I didn't get as close of a shave. Also, my skin never felt that comfortable, but after trying others I stuck with Gillette. Now, I am definitely hooked on the Anthony Logistics. The scent is mint, but very subtle. I end my morning routine with a nice close shave and my skin is not at all irritated, and sometimes I feel as if I do not need to use the after shave balm, but I still do.
The Toner is great. I had used other toners before but some of them didn't seem to go well with my skin, or really show any real results after long time use. After the first week of using Anthony's toner, I noticed my skin was keeping its moisture and staying "fresh" even in this dry winter air.
All in all, I find Anthony Logistics a good line of products.
Now, a friend of mine introduced me to Kiehl's, and though I heard of it before in passing I wasn't at all familiar with it. So, I am now using their lip balm #1, which I love for over-nite use. I use FANCL lip balm and treatment during the day.
I also now use, for trying, Kiehl's Ultra-Facial Cleanser, and even after my glowing review of Anthony's I must say that I am overly impressed with Kiehl's and I might stick with it for a while, and alternate between the two. One of the best things about Kiehl's Ultra-Facial Cleanser is it a bit more like gel so it doesn't come out of the bottle quickly, and it literally takes a small drop on the tip of my finger to get my entire face all cleaned up.
I am going to get a few more Kiehl's products here in the mail, and I will report on my experiences after some time using them.
What do you all do and use?

Re: A follow up thread regarding the Neostrata thread
Well, I am definitely down with Kiehl's. I will say again that Anthony Logistics for Men is a good line, but we all have different skin so it is good to try a few things to make sure you get a skin care system that works for you the best.
but it is good to hear more people adding their thoughts here.
I started to use Kiehl's Body Butter (not real butter of course) as my over night body moisturizer and I am loving it a lot.

Re: A follow up thread regarding the Neostrata thread
Hi used FANCL's lip products as well as, and on occasion I will stop by a location and pick up a stick. Their ingredients are fabulous and since they are about the same as the Lip (stick) by Kiehl's it doesn't make a difference in my budget.
HAHA.
I love using my #1 over night too, but now use it during the day with this dry, cold and windy days in Beijing. I don't worry about the glossy affect it has either. It is a great protection with this Beijing winter we are having.
It is good to keep this thread going !
