Does anyone know where one can get a proper Turkish shave in Beijing?
The other day I needed a shave and I tried a hair salon.
I had tried it once before in Beijing years ago and abandoned it when the old guy tried to shave my face against the grain DRY!
This time the Chinese boy did all the right preparation, hot towels, cream, got the razor but he didn't use a cut throat but like tried to scrape the hair off in short jogging motions, hey I bared the pain until he got to my chin then I had to give up again. Tears of pain were streaming down my cheeks. Luckily I had just come back from skiing and pulled out my Mac 3 and did the rest of the job myself and tried to console him as he obviously felt he had lost huge face with his colleagues.
My face was red still the next day from his scraping effort.
Step 3: I have made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God as I understand Him.

Hmm. I've never let anyone with a razor near my throat, so... no.
Reminds me of that scene in "Untouchables" with Capone/De Niro.
Ah...... no thanks.
How many times you tried this?
You've had good results before?

Yeah, a few times in Sydney it was great.
They were Turkish and used a cut throat, it seemed like cutting butter with a knife after I had bared the hot towels.
I guess the Chinese are just used to shaving Chinese.
My stubble is like No. 8 wire, haha.

On a related note...
..have you ever tried growing a beard?
I've tried semi-seriously and was happy with the results (after 1, 1 & 1/2 months).
The worst part was the itching.

Yeah I did when I was about 21.
It was a great novelty but it just didn't suit me as with a moustache.
My dad and one brother looked great with moustaches. I was jealous.
But as with my head shaved I just look psychotic as my Mum always said.
With a beard I just looked a bit shady.
So I gave up.
And like Gandalf I went from being Blackbeard to Greybeard and now am Whitebeard.
When I don't shave it ages me like 20 years as my eye-brows and hair are still brown...ish.
Itchy, with the beard, yeah I enjoyed it, nice scratching it. Great feeling and feel kind of wise in some ways when doing it.
Give it a try!

I wouldn't mind trying to grow one of those big Turk style mo's. They can look really stylish if you do it right.
It's just the initial stages of growth that worry me. I don't want to look like the guy out of the Franky goes to Hollywood video.
Relax.
Sometimes the same is different, but mostly, it's the same.

I am a Turkish person and I can easily say that Turkish shave is the cleanest and most comfortable shaving method I've ever seen. And no I'm not saying this because I'm Turkish.
I've tried many shaving machines or razors but was never as good as TS.
After it's finished your skin feels like it belongs to a baby and you don't have that burning feeling afterwards.
I wish Turkish barbers existed in beijing.
