Silky it is better than anyone says. You will not find, in this entire world, a city that is capable of comparing to NYC. It is the finest place on earth. When you think someplace in this world is great all you have to do is think NYC and know the other place ain't so great.

It is too abstract to understand. Dear zhenlai!
When I saw the TV series of 'beijinger in NY', there is the famous sentence:
If you love somebody, send him to NY, because it is paradise;
If you hate somebody, send him to NY too, because it is hell.
So somehow I think as all the good cities in the world, it is only good for rich people to enjoy the luxury things.
I know you are proud of everything of USA, which city are you from?

My home state is Virginia, but I spent a great deal of my adult life in New York City. If I ever live in the U.S. again it will be in New York.
There is probably no city in the entire world that is more a melting pot of cultures than NYC.
Whatever you want to find, you can find. Seriously - it's capitalism at its best. If someone is willing to pay money for something, someone else will find a way to provide it for them.
You most certainly do NOT need to be rich to love the city.... but like everywhere in the world... it certainly helps, hehe.
Definitely one of the few cities I can see myself living in long-term.
However, it is certainly not a place for the weak-minded or naive. Those people get chewed up and spit out in a new york minute.
In conclusion, it's a place you can only experience for your own self.
Sometimes I feel it is maybe unbearable always be traditional Chinese girl.

Got it, but I'd like to know what is naive idea about NY.
Maybe making money is everything in NY. And all the top rich men live there.
It's America's historical urban wastedump, they can't think much beyond their local environment, pretentious yuppie types or lowlife dogshit, take your pick. Ain't much in betwixt.
The first time I went there was with my church youth group to do charity work for the homeless. We a bunch of pubescent country bumpkins...
When we got off the bus a fellow waved to us and hollered "Welcome to New York!"
We all smiled and waved back. Then he said "Now get the f*** out!"
Which, granted, was pretty funny. But when those fkrs come to where WE live, they really learn hardcore. In fact, they generally can't deal with it...
I can't say it's all bad though, broadway shows are a delight, and it's about six thousand times better than fkn Boston, The Undisputed a-hole of The Earth.
When I said 'death' before 'dishonor', I meant alphabetically.
I went there once, when I was about half my actual age. Is it as good as people say? Well, I don't know what people are saying. It was an ok city, like many other cities across the States/Europe that I've been to. Maybe I didn't spend enough time to really appreciate it. I didn't take the metro, so I don't know if it's really dirty/dangerous. Central Park was nice. It was a bit fun at first to figure out where you are and where to go with the easy grid-like blocks downtown. I didn't dare set foot in Queen's (sp?) so I admit to not seeing parts of the city. Anyway, maybe because I had been around a bit before, it just came out as a nice, vibrant city but not jaw-dropping. I did enjoy Rockefeller Center and the Twin Towers. I liked Montreal more at the time.

Like any place you build up in your mind it can never live up to the expectations. If you have alot of money you can have fun anywhere. It is not cheap to visit NY and see all that it has to offer. It is such a large area as well, what do you do? what do you see? I guess a visit to Time Square is a must, the most popularized place from television, Central Park, etc.
I love Los Angeles, I loved Tokyo, and I have never been to NY but like Robert said I hope to be there sometime in the future when I am in a better position to enjoy it.
Sorry to disappoint you, but my travels and my being in China are not because I had a rich daddy pampering me. If I had a rich daddy I wouldn't be trying to get a job on my own and paying for all my stuff. But I have a great dad, yes.

oh, and f@#k Paris!
Yes, I feel the same.
I did travel to some places, when I was there, I don't feel amazed at all.
For example, when I went to the Tai mountain with my friends at midnight, we climb and climb to the top of the moutain till the next morning, we saw nothing but the thousands of stages -- because we were afraid of falling down the moutain.
I have been to NYC a million times and i love it there! they have great restaurants and shopping However, shopping can be a bit pricey but if you have never been to NYC then i think its definitely a place that you have to experience at least once in your life.
I love NY, it is one of the best cities in the world, so much to see, so much to do. I would recommend going in the winter so that you can ice skate in central park - amazing! Of course its expensive in comparison to Beijing, but for shopping its a lot cheaper than most European countries.
Great Place to Visit like most cities in the U.S. but bring some money because it isn't cheap. There are lots of attractions for all ages. Try to find a cheap room outside the city and use the public transportation and you can save money this way. Like all cities, New York has its bad side of town, so stay away from there.

I love Manhattan. Problem is it's expensive there. You could probably get a hotel at a reasonable price during the off season or in summer. It's less crowded in summer. Times Square is truly a great place. Be careful on the subways. Take at least one taxi ride. That's part of the NYC experience. New York is very safe, despite what many people who aren't familiar with the city might tell you. The city's old reputation lingers on. Back in the 70's and 80's it was a dangerous and dirty place. It improved greatly in the 90's. Go to Bleeker and MacDougal streets for reasonably priced dinner and music. St. Mark's st to see punk rock kids and buy cheap things on the street. Washington square park in the daytime to watch street performances, ( Greenwich village ). China Town. The top of the Empire State building for a view of the city. A trip to the Statue of Liberty will take most of your day.

I have this romantic/special feeling about New York.
I have never been there but want to go when I am ready.
But I try not to have any pre-conceived stereotyped cliched ideas about it.
As I did with Paris, supposedly the most romantic city in the world.
It was sh*t. Full of rude pompous Parisians, that is the French.
Madrid was ten times as romantic as Paris. I indeed fell in love with Spain.
But New York, yeah, I think it will be great. At least the people are real there. I love real.

Yes Samantha was not only the most real but the most sexy and the most desirable in that series.
