why china is called "China"?!?

chin...na?

why??1!

Re: why china is called "China"?!?

It was Marco Polo's word. I think the original word was pronounced "chai-n" and according to some people was derived from Qin (as in the dynasty).

Sometimes I feel it is maybe unbearable always be traditional Chinese girl.

Nerd thanks

Re: why china is called "China"?!?

Because there are so much demolishing in progress nowadays in China.

china ---> chai na (pin yin) ---> 拆那 (in characters)

chai = 拆 = demolish, demolishing
na = 那 = (this character is just used for emphasizing here, no actual meanings.)

Re: why china is called "China"?!?

The etymology of both "tea" and "China" are not known.

Or at least they are not agreed upon.

For our purposes it's just a matter of one poster quoting wiki, another raising a quote from Britannica, a third party seeing the Britannica quote and raising them a Websters reference and so on.

Re: why china is called "China"?!?

Simple because the people who lived here had long chins. It was a singular Chin. But because the Chinese add vowels to almost every English word, they called there country China. Jah Bless. Thank you.

4you

Re: why china is called "China"?!?

the Chinese nation originated in the Yellow River Basin area, ranking among the Quartet, and cultural well-developed, has a long history, it says that those places are China, also known as the Central Plains and China. Republic of China, The People's Republic of China have this as a national title.
