Easy to get a taxi from the Beijing Airport?

Hi all,

I will be arriving to Beijing on next Sunday at noon. I thought about taking a taxi from the airport to get to downtown (CBD). How long do you normally have to wait for a taxi at the Beijing airport? I read in the forum that queuing up for a taxi sometimes might take ages. Don't know how the situation in Beijing is right now with the current weather condition in mind.

By the way, anyone knows how much I have to pay for taxi to get to CBD from the airport? And can I pay with credit card? I probably won't have enough RMB in cash with me.

Thanks and cheers

Yes, it's easy.

No way you can pay with a credit card.

TO downtown will be about-100 (?) You pay the toll fee plus meter.
Make sure you have the name of your hotel printed on a card, most taxi drivers don't speak any English.

Hi blucat,

thank you for replying. It's very helpful.

Do I understand it correctly that Beijing taxis don't accept credit card in general?

Cheers,

Re: Easy to get a taxi from the Beijing Airport?

No taxi anywhere in China will accept credit card. There should be ATM and some kind of currency exchange booth somewhere in the airport for you to get some RMB.

In case you don't want to hear the angry mumbling along the ride instead of a nice easy conversation of how beautiful the city has been developed and how much has changed and people's standard of living has been improved, having your luggages carefully placed in the trunk and taken out at the destination, saving time for taking the longer route and result a very unreasonable meter price after all, let the driver know that you will settle for 200 all-in and expect no meter. The fact is that a lot of those drivers probably waited 2-4 hours on the line just to take a hire at the airport so the expectations and commotions are running haywire inside their uneducated minds.

Good point...anyone would go bonkers sitting in a cab to drive someone to who know where. Fact is, I've been never charged more than 90 (to or from the airport) and, even for being an old guy, the taxi drivers have been better than in New York or Chicago! Here...they are among the best!

PM alex the droog.

He is a great Chinese mini-cab driver, but remember to tell him to turn the CD or radio player off.

Or he has the habit of pulling over and giving you a dissertation in WESTERN music.

And be sure to remind him, no tip for the music rant.

Re: Easy to get a taxi from the Beijing Airport?

At worst, it's taken me 20+ minutes to get a cab (although I always arrive in daylight hours). Even with the meter on, I hear little grumbling at all. If you don't speak Chinese, then you're set!

Point is, don't ask the driver to turn the meter off, and 200 just to downtown BJ is too much.
