Xiehe Hospital - Avoid Avoid Avoid

I got a fun little yeast infection down there and did something stupid to make it explode into horrible things and needed Diflucan to kill it off. Chaoyaong Hospital does this stupid thing where the main pharmacy is not the same as the one in the "emergency" ward, which is all that is open after 5pm, and they, of course do NOT have any diflucan.

Chaoyang Hospital though, gets a A+ for service and honesty. 5.5RMB to check in, and when the doc said to come back later to get the meds, he had reception give us the money back. Not bad at all.

Xiehe though.... 5RMB for the card (for some reason they are on a different network than every other hospital in beijing and have no data access) 5RMB for their own book. 10RMB to see a doctor, however, if you are a foreigner, they will send you to 2nd floor and demand 200RMB just to see you. Hooray for discrimination! There is no way around this, and even if you con your way into the 10RMB doctors, they will absolutely refuse to do anything for you, period.

To top it off, they only stock Diflucan in IV form, and it's only a half-dose of what should be given, and they split it up into 2 bags with a spacer of useless crap instead of saline. 200 per bag, spacer another 80. And please remember this is a half-dose and you will have to come back to do it all again. (200+200+80+200)*2 = 1360RMB! They can f*** right the f*** off.

Here's my solution: the doctor in chaoyang told the pharmacy we ended up at over the phone that we needed it, no written script needed. Total cost of the pill: 24RMB.

Xiehe - basically it's a giant ripoff and horrible.

Seller's market in China Medical service. They never got worried simply because there will be patients pouring in. Too little hospitals, too large population.

I recommend clinics for expats if it is just a cold or fever.

If you want the same price as the chinese people in the hospital, you can go some hospitals that they do not have the foreigner patient department. Just like you said, some hospitals in China are very expensive for the chinese. And one more thing, if you just want to see a doctor in a hospital, it will be cheap. But if you want to see a expert in a hospital, it should be expensive. For example, 300RMB in Xiehe hospital.

Exactly what Baconn said.

If you speak good Chinese, you can always go to Chinese doctors.

For the expat facilities, you better have insurance.

Come play with the Panda, we are harmless animals.

Re: Xiehe Hospital - Avoid Avoid Avoid

meh, it was late and chaoyang didnt have access to the meds i needed, xiehe should have had it. speaking chinese had no effect in getting chinese service.

it's not just the 200 RMB charge, it's the fact that they were determined to milk me for everything they could.

end of the story: the pharmacy needed 2 days to get it in stock, i stopped into chaoyang during normal hours and made my way up to dermatology. the specialist had a test run that avoided the infected area for some reason, came back negative and gave me a script for OTC meds which were mild anti-biotics for eczema. I also got yelled at for cleaning the skin with diluted garlic water and a mild apple cider vinegar solution (which works very well for symptoms). basically, 蒙古大夫.

Well, screw him, stopped into the wudaokou pharmacy the next day because i was in the area anyways, generic diflucan - 11.3RMB, no script needed at all. also reupped on ventolin inhalers for 36 a pop and some other goodies to speed healing after the yeast was all dead (mmm neosporin and cipro cream)

Re: Xiehe Hospital - Avoid Avoid Avoid

that being said, i have almost always gone to chinese hospitals for the past 5 years and have usually been very satisfied with the results and service. i've never run into this before and the only times i ever got the IV treatment was when it was serious enough to warrant it and i still had a choice.

having said that, if you know what you have and know what you need, just hit up a pharmacy that ignores the OTC/RX distinction. it saves time/money/frustration

Re: Xiehe Hospital - Avoid Avoid Avoid

hey mj can you share info on that pharmacy you went to. I'm in desperate need of some fluconazole myself. help me put out that fire! thanks

Re: Xiehe Hospital - Avoid Avoid Avoid

I recommend Beijing Youyi Hospital Excellent facilities for foreigners and the new building is top-notch. I went there many times, shold only cost 150 RMB for a good doctor and the medicines are not expensive either. I went to Xiehe once and bloody hated it!

sorry for the delay here, but you can pick that up on the cheap over at 五道口 at the clinic, no script needed, no real questions asked, and it's cheap. Over on the corner across from TUSPARK/ TsingHua East Gate

anyone with half a brain can figure out minor sh*t on their own, once you know what it is, getting meds for it is just a matter of going to the right place. this isnt the wild west anymore, virtually all this information is online
