Can a US passport holder buy a 12 month m entry L visa at the CN embassy in HK?

I'm looking to buy a 12 month multiple entry L visa in HK at the Chinese Embassy. At the Consulate in NY I was told because I had never been to China before I could only have a double entry L visa.

i dont think you can actually buy a visa from embassy....
but you can use our help to get invitation letter for F visa, and that can easily get half or 1 year extension.

The best deal of getting visa!

I concur. Any honest answers from foreigners who have gone through this and not shyster visa agents?

In my experiences any L visa that you get that is valid for 12 months will have a limit of 30 days per each entry. So...every month you'd have to leave China.

The only exception to that is the special L "family visiting" visa that you get when you marry a Chinese citizen.

If you're looking at staying in China long term I think the best thing to do is get yourself an L visa, come to China, and once here find a shyster visa agent to help you convert that into a six month or twelve month F or Z visa without stay limits.

I live in Shenzhen, the 30 limit is not a big deal to me. I got a quote from a visa agent for 7000RMB to convert my L to F, so no thank you.

In HK, nowadays only when you are HK ID cards holders can you apply for mulitple-entry visas. HK permanent ID cards holders can apply for 1-3 year multiple-entry visas.

As far as I know, the Chinese embassies/ consulates in the US are much better than those in other countries in issuing visas. If they don't want to give you a multiple-entry visa, you can try your best to apply for a longer duration of each stay double-entry visa. The duration of each stay is quite important, too.

Hi, Iztel

Yes, The duration of each stay is also very important. You can apply for F visa if the Chinese Embassy/Consulates do not approve of multi-entries visa . It is easily get 6 months or 12 months multi-entries F visa extension in China.
