Cable modem ADSL
Hi all!
I was wondering if someone uses or knows about cable modem ADSL in Beijing, like Gehua Catv broadband http://www.gohoo.cn/index.asp or similar.
I am not an expert but I saw through their website that a 2M comes for 120 Yuan / month if you pay once a year.
One can try the service, I assume for free, for one month.
I guess no phone line is required to install this, can someone confirm, as I am moving to Beijing soon, I need an internet line at home, but I don't need a fix phone line.
Also, I would like to set a wireless spot at home, not sure if this cable modem (which seems to be connected via tv) allow that with a normal router.
Help and any reply appreciated!

Re: Cable modem ADSL
yes, gohoo provider such kind of service.
but not every place can use their service.
you can check the areas they supported on their website.
it doesn't require phone line, but require TV cable line(gohoo).
another one is this:
http://www.cttbj.com/
always require a line (phone or TV) in facts
you can buy a router with wireless support. that is quite simple.

Re: Cable modem ADSL
thank you tshwangq
I have a wireless modem, so I think it will not be hard to set up a home net.
Probably I am going to try the gohoo service, as one can try it for one month.
I would like to verify if it's fast, stable and reliable first.
Cable connection should be better than broadband on the paper, but would like to hear some users' comments.

Re: Cable modem ADSL
I use China Unicom's service, it is not wireless. But if you have a wireless router, then you can configure to get wireless connection.
2M bandwidth, annual fee is about 1700RMB. It is stable but relatively expensive.
I know there are some other methods for internet connections, but I didn't try them one by one though I am a technical personnel.

Re: Cable modem ADSL
hi Mr.Tang,
can you tell me how to set up the service?
Shall I look for the closest China Unicom office?
MrTang
Re: Cable modem ADSL
Yea go into China Unicom main shop for your area, they will tell you if they can connect you.
Cash deal upfront, no idea what the price is in Beijing, I'm down south.
Latest fiber optic system, router are out side apartment blocks, then send a Cat5 lan into your place, stick that in your router port and away you go.
I pretty sure I ordered 2mb but it runs at 4mb up and down(i seen 5mb) on my torrent software, 700mb film down in less then hour and half.
Streams TV np.
Dont listen to any one telling you Unicom sucks, ever one told me this and now the all sucking there thumbs on crappy China Telecom at twice the price.
Im a f-ing Idiot.

Re: Cable modem ADSL
Thanks, I will try
But I guess China is so big that service can be very different according to where you are, especially on the internet.
I will try and share the experience

Re: Cable modem ADSL
yea its going be different for each user on same network, could be there not many sharing the same network box as me.
All new gear here as well CU spent millions building new network down south.
That said the big cites are usually the first to get the best and most money spent, but then there is more users.
What i liked the most was paying a year and forget about it, no hassle with accounts or anything else.
Simpler which makes for a easier life for us foreign dudes..
Shame they ain't wised up to getting there web sites in dual language yet.
Pain in the ass trying to research anything here.
Im a f-ing Idiot.
