F Visa Extension Mystery

So why exactly is extending an F Visa so expensive? The government fee is 940 RMB which I completely understand, but where does the other 2000/4000 for 6/12 month extension go? I've got the invitation letter, I've got the PSB temp residence cert if needed, what else is there?

Is there any way to do this cheaper? Or am I at the mercy of the visa service cartel?

Re: F Visa Extension Mystery

Well, if you are a F visa holder, you should get some official documents from a company which invited you entering in.
However, if you don't have any company's surport, you have to pay for the sponsorship for your business visitor identification.

Re: F Visa Extension Mystery

At this time you shouldn't be paying more for a 6 months F extension than say 1200RMB from an agent and you don't need an invitation letter as they provide it.

Re: F Visa Extension Mystery

hes american. ofcos the extension would be 2000 something. just the government charge part is 940 already.

Re: F Visa Extension Mystery

Scorpion, any recommendations of someone cheaper to use?

I still don't get where the extra 2 to 4 grand goes, does anyone know? Is it the extension part that's an issue? If this was a fresh F visa it wouldn't be so difficult?

The extra money is a "service charge". Service charge means that somewhere along the line someone or some people are getting kickbacks.

If you've got the right documents you can just go to the Entry/Exit bureau and get the visa yourself for 940 - but more than likely you'll end up paying some "agent" for their expertise and convenience.

Re: F Visa Extension Mystery

Figured as much, just very frustrating. Greedy as well asking for 2 to 4 times the cost of the actual visa.

Re: F Visa Extension Mystery

Actually in china everything works with the public relations. the easiest way for you to extend you're visa generally speaking is to rely on a services agency that can solve you're stressing problems in few days.

I work for this kind of company and the prices are resonable, you can check by yourself.

don't hesitate to ask me for further info, i'll try to help you Smile

The extra fee over and above the official visa fee is split between the visa agent and the "cooperative" PSB office that actually issues the new visa. Which may not be in the city in which are you currently located. A (very) small amount goes for overhead and agent's trouble rather than profit.

Yes, there are people making money off your needs or wants, and they have calculated what the market will bear, and set the price carefully to be slightly better than your alternatives (travelling to HKG or elsewhere, etc. etc.).
