Downtown (f.ex CBD) to BDA - expert advice needed

Hi everyone,

i am returning to China in May. After a while back in Europe, i will now experience life in Beijing. Quite excited...however I will be working in the BDA (Beijing Economic Technological Development Area).

I seem to be a bit more unlucky here in terms of the location. At least concerning the connection to downtown Beijing, based on what I could read so far on the internet and the forum. Please correct me if I am wrong Wink

So my questions to you experienced Beijingers. I so far could find a bus route (f.ex.324) connecting the BDA with downtown Beijing.

Does anyone have further information about shuttle busses going there? I think the light rail isnt going yet, or is it? So what is the best way to get there?

Please also state your opionion: is it realistic to live downtown and go there for work? I don't mind some travelling every day, but it somehow has to be working out in the end. Distance CBD - BDA seems to be between 11 km and 14 km. Anyone else doing these trips on a daily basis?

Thanks for your help! Highly appreciated!

BDA (Beijing Economic Technological Development Area)?? Do you mean YiZhang(亦庄) which is located on south-east? Even local Beijinger don't know what is BDA, but YiZhuang is well-known.

As i know, there is no shuttle bus any more since year 2008. In stead, you have to take bus, e.g. 976. There a couple of bus lines between downtown and YiZhuang, you could select one depends on location of your office. After all, YiZhuang is not a small area. The most quick route is 976-short-quick(976支快, in Chinese). It sets off from DaWangLu subway station and has many stops in YiZhuang.

Many companies in YiZhuang would provide their own shuttle bus for employees.(e.g. Nokia its shuttle bus routes cover nearly whole Beijing.) Ask your employer if there is shuttle bus for employees

YiZhuang is a big resident area in Beijing too. To rent an apartment in YiZhuang(relatively cheaper than downtown) could avoid annoying traffic, but life in YiZhuang is boring

Hanxio, thanks a lot.

Yeah I actually meant YiZhuang. Thought BDA was a known term in Beijing but after only a few hits in this forum for BDA, i realized there must be something more.

I will get some infos from my emplyoer and see how i can get there. Living downtown is sure more fun.

I saw some nice appartments in the CBD. Can you estimate how long a taxi ride is from the CBD to Yizhuang?

Thanx

It takes probably 30 minutes from CBD to YiZhuang by taxi, costs about 50 Yuan.

The good news is that the light rail connecting YiZhang and downtown will begin running before end of 2010 Angel
