America's Surprise Olympics Rout

America is delivering an Olympics beating that nobody saw coming.

The U.S. won as many medals on Wednesday—six—as it won during the entirety of the 1988 Games in Calgary, Alberta.

The 20 medals that America had won through Friday afternoon at the Vancouver Games represent far more than half of its greatest Winter Olympics haul ever—the 34 that it garnered during the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

No one cares, FAILURE!

Re: America's Surprise Olympics Rout

I was telling my wife this morning that I could remember in the 1960's when the U.S. winning a Bronze Medal was a big deal. I never have counted on the U.S. to be a big winner in the Winter Olympics.

Nice to see the US doing so well and its not being shoveled down people's throats as propaganda.

Re: America's Surprise Olympics Rout

Evan Lysacek became the first American to win the Olympic men’s figure skating title since 1988. He is now the first U.S. male figure skater to win a gold medal, since Brian Boitano won gold 22 years ago in Calgary.

Norway is the big winner in general; this year they're doing very well too. That's not surprising, although it's interesting that they've done so much better than the other Scandinavian countries like Finland and Sweden.

I find the fact that Iceland has never won any Winter medal kind of ironic.

While the results really are a genuinely pleasant surprise to most Americans, I have to reluctantly acknowledge your point.

This article in particular is painfully similar to so much of the Chinese media coverage in 2008.

Yeah they're having a hard time buying skis this year.

Norway's always good.

Again, where's India?
