Best way to travel to Hong Kong for visa purposes!
I am currently in Beijing, and my visa expires on the 7th of next month.
I am in the process of filing for a work visa, and will be legal before the 7th, but I am told I need to leave China on or before the 7th, as that is how a one entry visa works, you have to enter and leave once! Also, I am told, if I want to re-enter China while waiting for my paperwork, Hong Kong is my only option!
So, what is the best way to Hong Kong?
When I get to Hong Kong, do I get my passport stamped, and then I have fullfilled my obligations?
Do I need to go to the embassy?
How difficult is it to do the paperwork myself, and where do I go to do it?
The best way to message me is busyman66204@yahoo.com
Thanks, Todd

Re: Best way to travel to Hong Kong for visa purposes!
There's some critical missing information here. What visa are you on now...the one that expires on the 7th? If it is a Z for working, and you and a company are in the process now of jumping through hoops to get your Residence Permit, you should be OK with staying in China. Normally when you give up your passport to get the Z changed to Residence Permit, you get a slip of paper/receipt to hold until your passport with RP comes back. As long as the ball is in the court of Chinese officialdom, you should be OK. But your company-to-be should also be able to back you up. (I'm assuming you are going to work for a company/organization.) What do you mean by "being legal" by the 7th?
If you are now on something besides a Z visa that has a duration or entry limit ending March 7, then you either need to pay at the PSB here to extend it a month, or leave China. Is it a single entry visa or is there another entry on the current visa? Normally if you are changing visa status from L-F-X to Z, you will need to leave China anyway, submit paperwork outside China to Consulate/Embassy, and get the Z visa, then re-enter. HKG is OK for this. Companies with enough clout can manage to do this visa status change without you leaving China, but it's not clear your situation. You'll be stamped out of China and into Hong Kong, at which time you will not be able to get back into PRC unless you have another entry on your current visa, or will get a new visa in HKG.
Direct flights PEK-HKG are international and expensive. Cheapest way to get to HKG that is reasonably time-effective is probably the express train (takes about 24 hours) to Kowloon's Hung Hom station, hard sleeper. You can buy a return train ticket in Beijing. Some people fly to Shenzhen then cross border overland--you'll have to compare pricing and timing. Best you'll be able to do in HKG now is probably next-day visa service--most people recommend going through an agent like Forever Bright, rather than waste time standing in line and doing it yourself at the Commissioners Office in Wanchai. But probably safer to plan on 2 nights stay in HKG.
You won't be travelling anywhere if you aren't in physical possession of your passport and it's with the PRC authorities, but it's not clear what process you are undergoing right now.

Re: Best way to travel to Hong Kong for visa purposes!
I am on an L visa, and currently in possession of it. Monday I was going to go to an agency to do an one month extension. During that month my Fiancee and I would get married, then a different and much longer visa would be applied for!
I thought I would take a flight to Hong Kong when and if I need to go, cost about 300 US dollars.
You are correct, this needs to be done in a specific order, as I will not be going anywhere with out my passport in possession.
People have been telling me Hong Kong is the place to go to leave the country as this is a territory of PRC and I can re-enter. (my L visa is a single entry) Is this incorrect information?
Thank you for your time and valuable information, Todd

Re: Best way to travel to Hong Kong for visa purposes!
Well, if you used your current L visa to enter China already and your passport has an entry stamp on it based on this visa, then that single entry is used up, and when you exit the PRC to Hong Kong, you will in effect cross an international border and will need a new visa to get back into the PRC. I assume that is your situation. In which case, you have been given incorrect information--HKG is treated differently for immigration purposes from the PRC, regardless of its SAR status. So if you go to HKG, plan on getting a new visa there. Forever Bright is a good agent to use there.
Option 2: You can certainly extend your visa for 30 days at any PSB office in China, and you can do that yourself, but it will cost the same as a new visa, and in Beijing at least, you may be required to produce proof of funds (= to $100 per day x 30 days extension = $3000 or RMB equivalent) in a Chinese bank account. If that's not a problem, then that's an option rather than go to HKG. Or take a quickie excursion from Beijing and get that L extension at a PSB in another Chinese town where the bank account and cash proof thing won't be an issue. Personally, for an extension on an L visa, I'd scrap paying extra to have the agent do this for you unless the service fee is worth your time--that's your call.
I'm not sure what duration of L's are being given out in HKG these days, whether 60 days is even possible. In your situation, the extension done here on the current visa may be a better tactic to buy you time, and you'd avoid costs of travel to HKG for now. Just make sure you first understand what the sequence of new visa procedures is for after you marry--to get that 12 month spousal L visa. It is possible that sooner or later, you will have to exit the country to HKG or wherever, and start again with a new visa. You need to get more reliable information than you've been getting. But you need to make a decision and activate the Plan now, as your time is running out.
Train info: forgot to put in first post: hard sleeper BJ-HK is a little over RMB 500 each way, soft sleeper a little over RMB 800 each way. Express is every other day, only 3 stops on the way, roughly 3 pm to 3 pm.

Re: Best way to travel to Hong Kong for visa purposes!
I got married last week, Wooo hooooo!!!
Had to get paperwork from/for the Chinese Gov, and more than once the office had moved. The US Gov, directed us to the correct address each time, so I do not have much complaint on them. Other than 30$ to have a document and notorized is a bit much, and 4 hours to stand in line to do so is a waste for me (although a good deal for them).
I went to the US embassy on the 4th to get my permission slip to marry a Chinese girl, no, need an appointment!!! Given paper with email address. I also said, my visa is going to expire on the 7th and I need to re file that! Well is closed now, come back tomorrow, I can let you right in for that. I went home and fired off an email, asking for help with my situations.
And the next day, went to the Embassy, and they did let me right in, because of the Visa about to expire!!!
On the 9th, I received an email from the embassy, return from the one I sent, giving me a phone number to call to set up an appoinment. Isn't that not sweet, only two days after my visa expiration date!!!
What is the deal with no head hunters or agent to help find jobs? There are Visa agents coming out of the woodwork, but no job agents?
