Tailored suit details + accessories

Sorry to start yet another tailoring thread, but I'd like to discuss not only where to go for tailored suits & such, but also what kinds of details to request to make your suit really stand out. I am currently a teacher about 45 minutes east of Beijing, but I will be returning to America soon to (hopefully) practice as a lawyer, and I want to be taken seriously by interviewers, bosses, clients, coworkers etc.

I just placed an order for one suit at Carol & Luc based on forum recommendations, and so far so good. Carol is very nice and the price was pretty good after bargaining a bit - 1000 for their "super 180" fabric, plus a little extra for a silk lining. Being in contact with the actual tailor making my suit is important to me, so I think it's worth the extra investment over the silk market/yashow 500 kuai suits.

With that in mind:

What kinds of details should I request in a suit? I want the little details that say "this suit is tailored!" I know about things like a flower loop, ticket pocket, functional sleeve buttons, but am I missing anything else?

What about trouser linings? Good idea or bad idea? I think silk might be too fragile, but the tailor doesn't seem to have Bemberg or Emerzene, and I hate polyester, so what about cotton?

Does anybody know a good place to get good buttons - horn, bone, mother-of-pearl, that kind of thing? Maybe even something with a unique Chinese style? Unfortunately Carol doesn't have anything other than basic polyester buttons, which I think looks tacky on a handmade suit.

Accessories - does anybody have any recommendations for where to find 1) real silk pocket squares, 2) real silk ties, 3) decent quality cufflinks? Just as importantly, what price should I be looking for?

Shoes - anybody know a good shoemaker? I think I will go to Mr. Billy's Handmade shoes, but I'm open to other suggestions. I'd like to get 3-4 pair for around 2000 kuai.

Re: Tailored suit details + accessories

As for bespoke suit details, you might want to check out the Ask Andy or Style forums.

I am down with you on the accessories. It seems to be either cheap and bad or good and expensive (don't get me started on the navy tie with blue diagonal stripes that literally every porter/doorman seems to have). There is a tie room in the Lufthansa shopping centre (expensive), and you may be able to find something at Yansha Outlets. But I'm on the lookout for these things myself.

Shoes: Billy's has left the building. I'm having some shoes made at Lao Yu (Gulou Dongdajie), at Y900. His prices run between Y600 and Y1200, depending on material, and boots are a little extra. Some other cobblers should be around, there is a thread here on this.

Re: Tailored suit details + accessories

What happened to Mr. Billy? Did the business move or is it just closed?

As for Lao Yu, please give me an update once your shoes are finished. I'm looking to buy around 3 pairs of dress shoes - a pair of brogues, a black and a tan oxford. If he's good I'll definitely check it out.

Who are some other good cobblers?

Re: Tailored suit details + accessories

You'll find some more on Google Maps, if you enter "手工制鞋 北京" (Handmade shoes Beijing), but Billy's is still on there as well, so no guarantee. I don't know whether he closed or moved. Shop looks desolate, only the sign remains.
