I am an American citizen;I will visit Beijing-Wudaokuo for 1 month on a 2 months L visa.I will stay at a friend's apartment.I will leave China after 1 month so my visa will not expire.
Do I need to go to police station to register?As I understand, you need registration if you want to renew your visa in China.Correct?Thanks

yea take some one Chinese with you with a brain to show them how to enter your details in the computer, you need some passport photos to take with you, copy of your rent book or where you lives rent book or house documents and there ID.
Take a flask and some sandwiches, offer them a f**.
They should do this in all country's in my opinion, far to many dodgy bastards coming and going unchecked.

Normally, if you wanna register in local police, ul need to bring the landlord's ID card, house property book and renting contract to police station for registration, quite fast but if u live in ur friend's, ul need to ask the landlord if he will do that for you.
If not, u can just ask the visa agency's help to get you one which is normally registered in a hotel or other place, so u still can do ur visa.

You are required to do the registration within 24 hours of arrival. Late registration or no registration, if found, you can get fined ranking from 50rmb to 500rmb, or a warning only.
And the registration forms of temporary residence are needed to do the visa extension, too.
In conclusion, you'd better do it at your earliest convenience after you come to China.
