How about 王文革 Wang Wenge. It's a cool name that makes Chinese people ask questions about and it's easy to learn to write.

You need to have your English name translated directly by an educated Chinese person.

That is if you intend on staying in China for a long time. Legally, if you want to get married, get a driver's license, etc, you need the proper translated Chinese version of your name.

If you are just here for awhile, you don't need a Chinese name and it's gay if you have one.

I didn't know this at first when I came to China many years ago, and looking back, I'm embarrassed that I told Chinese people my Chinese name was a name I had chosen myself. It is stupid, immature and presumptuous to give yourself a Chinese name that is anything but the literal translation of your given western name.

The Chinese will just laugh at you behind your back if you go the route of "Da Shan" and similar idiots. Yes, he can speak Chinese, but calling yourself "big mountain" only makes you seem like an over-compensating, pumpkin-headed moron.
