Cheaper for Americans to use Visa Services back home
I just got a 12 month M Entry L visa 60 per entry visa for $215 including shipping. So if you're tired of extortionate prices from shyster visa agents here I highly recommend you do the same. The Chinese embassy website lists their affiliated companies here:http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/hzqz/yisq/t169580.htm . I won't say which one I used but they are all legit according to the embassy website. You can either send in a self addressed prepaid envelope to your Chinese address or use a relative's/friend's address back home if they are kind enough to go to the post office for you. The whole process took 2 weeks. So fuck all you cunts trying to take advantage of desperate foreigners. Burn in hell.

well, that sounds cheap but do u caculate the fees n time u spent on going to HK just for entry stamp each 60days?
But of course if u have trip each 60days, that will b a good idea.

That is a good deal, but I need a F visa and I think you have to get that here in China right? L visa does me no good but it is a good deal. Not sure what the above poster is talking about when saying you need to go Hong Kong every 60days????

Re: Cheaper for Americans to use Visa Services back home
I live in Shenzhen, it takes me an hour to go to HK and come back which is why I don't bother with an F visa but these companies all do F and mayvisas too. If you have all the needed paperwork there should be no problem. I only asked for the 60 day but they offered 90 day too. Depending on my situation next year I may apply for that. Just email them and ask them about what you need or give them a call. I spoke with a woman on the phone because I wasn't sure if I needed to leave China or not and she was really nice and helpful.

This kind of visa is issued abroad which requires visa holder go out of China during certain limit time. say, 60days or 90day,you can take it as a kind of renewal.
If you do not want to restricted by this kind of visa, you can extend visa when you are in China, then u can choose to go out whenever you want or just stay here without going out.
The satisfaction we get from a lifetime depend on how high we choose our difficulties.

It's very easy to also get 90-day duration of stay, some people can get 120-day durations also. You just need to put on the application what you want, and use one of the "friendlier" Chinese consulates in the US (i.e. LA or Houston). I have a multiple entry F (business) visa with a 90-day duration of stay limit. A friend with a business here in China did a chopped invite letter for me (for free), which I submitted with the application when I went back to the USA for various matters including Chinese visa. For a lot of people (like me), this kind of visa is not a problem:
1) I exit and re-enter China on average about 6x per year anyway. Usually flying back to USA or SE Asia or Europe. Lots of people don't need long continuous stays.
2) Even if I needed to stay longer than the duration and was based in Beijing or the north, a border run to Mongolia is not too expensive and not too time consuming. Remember US passport holders don't need visas to Mongolia, just show up and cross. Not necessary to assume you have to go Hong Kong. Although for people living down that way, it's a no-brainer to go there instead for periodic round-tripping.
Really, for a lot of US passport holders it is a much better deal to get visa there rather than fool around with agents here. Also, if you plan the timing of your last entry right, you can get quite a bit longer than 12 months out of the "12 month" visa, as the 12 months specifies the last day you can ENTER (re-enter) China, after which you get another duration of whatever it is you got. This effectively can extend the usefulness of this visa to 13, 14, 15 months, before having to get a new one.
