Why sometimes the noun follows "some" is single?
What I learned is "some+pl."
I'm totally confused.
Here comes the two sentences I read:
*a seemingly respectable person or family has some terrible secret(not secrets?) which has been concealed from strangers for years.
*At some dramatic moment(not moments?)in the story,.....
Feel so helpless....

Silky is right. In these sentences "some" = "a certain"
"Some" is often used in this way to show something vague or unimportant.
"I read some stupid book yesterday"
"You don't like my food? What should I do: give it to some homeless person?"
"He's a presenter on some TV show or other but I found him a bore!"

Because. Just because. You don't need to know the reason, it's just because.
Sometimes the same is different, but mostly, it's the same.

In this sentences you could replace "some" for "a".
It's possible that the writer had been using "a" too much and so decided to replace it with "some".
Or perhaps they are being vague. The exact kind of secret is not important in this sentence.
> At some dramatic moment in the story,.....
Again, you could swap "some" for "a" here. Probably, the person saying this sentence used "some" to be vague. The exact moment in the story was not important.
"a certain dramatic moment" = very specific.
"a dramatic moment" = specific.
"some dramatic moment" = vague.
"some dramatic moment or other" = very vague.
