Hello, I am a 30 year old single mother. I divorced not long ago. My girl friends all say that I should find a foreign BF. They say western men tend to be more caring and respective to women. And generally speaking, they are more fun. They introduced me to this forum. But after viewing some threads, I got confused. Quite a number of “laowai” here are proud of getting laid at a “respectable frequency” with “Chinese chick”. I am confused. They are quite different from what my girl friends tell me. Can somebody give me some advice? You guys know more foreigners anyway. Is it the theory that larger the sample the more accurate the statistics?

I'll try to give you my advice.
I really don't think it's healthy to have too many general pre-conceived notions about foreign men -- either good or bad.
Are foreign guys more caring and treat women more respectfully? Maybe some.
Do foreign guys brag about how many girls they sleep with in China? Yeah, some do.
Some foreign guys are decent, some are just looking for a good time.
Some foreign guys are happily married to Chinese women here. And there are also many horror stories of guys getting chinese girls pregnant and then leaving the country.
So, it's useless to generalize.
Just try dating some guys and try to get to know them and judge each person individually.

French men = romantic but don't often wash and sometimes poo in the shower.
Italian men = good looking but too macho.
English men = the real gentlemen! They look like Jude Law!
German men = good looking with blond hair but will be angry with you if you are not on time.
Canadian men = friendly and honest.
Australian men = they drink too much and think with their dks!
I think you should certainly chose an English or a Canadian man.

OP, most foreign guys in Asia are proud trash. Love and passion is everywhere with whomever, as long as you don't look too ugly.
If you are rich, go abroad and take back a real handsome guy from any country. If you are poor, well, first try to be a good mom.

Really to be fare it shouldn't be a case of you want to try a foreign man because you been told its the deal.
It should just happen because its happens.
If your looking for relationship simply because you intend to get a better life you will have problems.
If spend time with a guy and its gels then you know.
But theres no formula.
Expect it to be more harder then you think thou,and thats both ways.

men from certain western countries come from a background and a culture that tends to respect women more than china's.

What exactly are you looking for?
Looking to have some fun? No problem. I know some 30 year old women (divorced, single, married, with kids, without kids, all varieties) who like to go to sanlitun, have some drinks, meet a western guy and take him home.
They have lots of fun doing it and you might too, but be aware that if you go looking for that, don't expect anything other than that. And in this case, you are more likely to have a relatively great time with a foreigner than a chinese guy.
Looking for a quick new husband who cherishes you and treats you well? Then toss out whatever pre-conceived notions you have about men from "a certain country." Plenty of trash from both camps in Beijing.... and plenty of genuinely great guys, as well. Up to you to figure it out - sorry, no easy answers.
Here's a hint.... try thinking more about what kind of guy he is and how he makes you feel... and less about where he happens to have been born.

English men often appear too cool and serious because of dim weather in their home island. They become friendly and cheerful after having stay in sunshiny Beijing for years.
English men are narrow-minded football-hooligan. They become gentle and generous after knowing Chinese football fans who are obviously best temper football fans in the world
English men ofter laugh at ugly, fat English girls but forget that they actually share nearly same gene with English girls. Their figure become slim and fit after having healthy Chinese cuisine for years

Thanks for all the advice. Yes, it was wrong of me to generalize people just by nationality. I like wefrucar's way of putting it: "men from certain western countries come from a background and a culture that tends to respect women more than china's." This is exactly what I want to express. And it is what I myself feel either during the business cooperations with foreigners or during my trips abroad.
Yeh, I want to look for a BF, caring, responsible, mature and can have fun together with me. The single Chinese men I met are boring, and the not boring ones are married. Either it is the culture thing or it is my bad luck. BTW, I am a presentable, kind and finacially independent woman.

Wait a minute, I am sure the op is hot but why did she check out foreign men at an "establishment"? I'm sure she is hot but why did her friends send her to the beijinger to get a foreign bf? If she is financially independent then why would she advertise this to a foreign guy? Wouldnt it make him one more person she has to support along with her kid and family and car and house and english tutor?

Why are you being so hard on her? It's not that easy for a divorced woman with a child to remarry, I think.
She mentioned that she's financially independent to show that she's not after a foreign guy for his money, I think.

Quite right. There is absolutely nothing appealing about getting involved with a woman with kids, especially at 30 years old. My advice is work on your failed marriage and beg him to take you back.
