Changing my child from chinese Id to a visa in british passport

Hi All

Let me explain my situation: My wife is Chinese, I am British. We live in Bj. My daughter was born in Beijing and has a hukou and Chinese ID card. She also has a British passport which we have never used. I want to put her onto her British passport and am not worried about losing the Chinese ID. Do I have to go back to England to get a visa in her Chinese passport? What is the procedure? If I don't go to England, can I do the same task in HK? Can anyone give me any clues, or is anyone able to help me do this without me going to the UK?

Thanks in advance for your answers

Re: Changing my child from chinese Id to a visa in british ...

You need to do NOTHING at the moment.

According to Chinese laws, your daughter got her Chinese nationality by birth as her mother is Chinese and she was born in China.
China don't accept dual nationalities. Thus there is some nationality conflict.

During her stay in China, she can just use her Chinese nationality. Only when she needs to leave for other countries, you have to do something.

She needs to get an exit permit, which is normally 3-month valid. Before that, on behalf of her, you need to do a declaration to give up her Chinese nationality and cancel her Hukou.
With the exit permit, she can leave China mainland, although there is NO visa on her British passport.
In U.K., she can apply for a Chinese visa by using her British passport to re-enter China mainland.

Thanks Beijingleeo. That is very clear. It sounds like you've done it yourself! I was wondering if it's possible to apply for a Chinese visa in Hong Kong instead of England. Does anybody know if this is possible? Has anyone done it themselves?I know you can get other Chinese visas in HK. My company will issue an invitation letter so my daughter can get a visa.

Once again, thanks in advance

If I had checked your website, I would have understood why you know about visas!
