You still can get visa in HK, but normally its either short-time visa like 1month or at most 3months, if its a longer visa like 6months or 1yr, it will have limitation on each stay, like each entry stay 30/60/90days;

If you apply visa in Bj through agency, you can get 6/12months visa without limitation on each stay.

2 solutions for get a longer period visa:

1. apply a business invitation letter before you go to HK.
You can apply a F in HK, and then come back to extend it for 6 or 12 months as you want;

2. apply the conversion without leaving
apply L-F 3/6 months conversion, or L/F-Z conversion

The price for both of them is equal to each other. Which one is better depends on the time scedule you have set.
