I recommend all foreigners to learn PinYin at the beginning.
If you pay too much attention to grammar and structure of sentence,you'll get confused because there're much transmutations and no simple regulation in chinese. then you'll lose self-confidence gradually.
by contraries, you can exactly pronounce every word according to PinYin. as long as you accumulate enough vocabulary and practice more and more, you'll be able to let chinese people know what you mean without correct grammar.
