Re: Time Out's Restaurant Awards

^ What's interesting about these results is how similar they are to one another -- this despite the beijinger awards being selected by a poll of all readers and Time Out's being selected by a panel of a few foodies.

Re: Time Out's Restaurant Awards

I think I need to go to Maison Boulud sometime soon.

Re: Time Out's Restaurant Awards

You lie, admin!!
We all know the real reason for the similarities is TBJ's voting process.

Quote:
How TBJ determines the winners for restaurant awards:
Step 1. Spend a lot of money and effort to get thousands of users to vote on their favorite restaurants in Beijing.
Step 2. Throw out all that useless data and just steal Time Out's win selections instead.
Step 3. Actually, probably should have mentioned this earlier: you're supposed do that last part of step 2 a week BEFORE Time Out releases their wins... to avoid it looking like you are just copying them.
Step 4. Modify a few selections based on admin's preferences.
Step 5. f*** it. Just give all the awards to Annie's.

Now we know...

Sometimes I feel it is maybe unbearable always be traditional Chinese girl.

Re: Time Out's Restaurant Awards

OK, so how to explain: Beijinger readers' picks seem to parallel a panel of hand-picked food trendsetters for the most part ... then collectively lose their taste when voting for Italian?

Let's start naming names here -- who should have won Best Italian?

Re: Time Out's Restaurant Awards

Well, TO doesn't seem to have a "best italian" category that I can find.
So who knows how the "expert panel" would have voted? Thinking
(I'm pretty sure they would have felt unable to select annie's on principle, though.)

I mentioned before how my home town always picks Olive Garden as best Italian...

Hey, it could've been worse, they could have gone with Pizza Hut.

I'd definitely put L'Isola before Annies.

But guess which one I probably go to more often?
