Both Tourism and Student Visa due to early entry possible?

Hey all,
I've got a question for you regarding both the tourism and the student visa. Originally I'm from Germany but I'm studying in the Netherlands and I'll do my study abroad semester (just one semester) as of September this year in Beijing.
As I want to get to know the city and the people beforehand I've booked a flight for 27/06 and I'll head back to Europe at the 15th of January 2011.
I know that I only get the student visa when I get the 'go' from the university in China which will happen quite soon but this one will probably just be valid as of September right? So I have to have another visa beforehand.
So my question is: Can I enter China with a tourism visa (2 x 30 days) and also have a student visa too? Can I apply for both already beforehand or do I have do the student visa in China?

Hi Adrian,
You can not have 2 visas at the same time, there is only one valid visa. The valid visa is the newest visa that you get.
I think the school that you will study in will help change your student visa to a residence permit for study, if yes, you only need to enter China with the student visa.
If the school will not help you on the visa issue, I suggest you to enter China with an F as you will stay in China for nearly 7 months. We can help you prepare Visa Notification form if necessary.

Hey Maggie,
thanks for your reply. Do you know if I will be able to apply for the f visa within China as soon as my tourist visa is running out or would I have to leave the country for that?
I'm just wondering if the university is able to write into their confirmation (with which I will apply for the f visa) that I am already arriving two month earlier before courses start.
That's my big issue here.

Have you already applied the tourist visa? If not, you had better choose the F visa.
Cause the cost of L-F conversion is higher than F-F extension.
Anyway, if the school will be full charge of your visa issue, you don't need prepare any other type of visa but enter with student visa.
If the visa will be issued by yourself, the F visa is better.

Hi there,
no I haven't applied for a visa yet. I'm afraid that the JW202 form says September till January. Then I won't be able to get an F Visa as of e.g. end of June right? I only get the visa for the duration that is on the JW202 form correct?

Yes, I think ul b able to get student visa since September, but as u planned ul come to China at June, u can come with a L tourist visa, during the time b4 u got student visa u can extend L visa, n ur uni can help u change L to student visa as im known froom some schools, better double-check with ur school if they will b able to do that.

Hi Adrian,
It is possible for you to get an F after you come to China with a tourist visa.
And phyllis is right, double check with the school, if the school will help you on student visa issue, you can come to China with a tourist visa.
If they will not help you, you'd better come to China with an F-visa. As F visa extension in China is always cheaper than L-F conversion.
