Z-visa expiring, converting to F is it possible?

Hi,
I have asked couple of agents and they all tell me that with Z-visa expiring the only option for converting it to F is to leave the country and come back with L or F and then apply again here. Is it true?? I was out of the country in February.
I do not want to continue with Z-visa (working visa) due to personal reasons so please do not offer this solution.

The Z visa can not covert to F directly but 30 days L visa.
But the L visa can not extend or convert any more.
So the best solution is apply another type of visa in Chinese Embassy if you don't want to continue your Z visa.
There are 2 solutions:
1. apply a L directly, and then come back to do the conversion
2. apply a business invitation letter, then apply a F visa in Chinese Embassy in HK or other countries, then extend it when you come back.

you can convert Z to F visa for 6 months without leaving china,but you have to offer release letter.

If you do not want to leave, renewing your work visa is the only choice. you must ask for release letter from former company and find a reliable visa company to extend work visa for one yr.
Z visa can be only changed to one month L visa. but you are required to leave china to get a new visa when L visa is about to expire.
If you still plan to change visa type, there are two options
Option one: apply for Buiness Invitation Letter, hold this letter you can get one month F visa in HK,and then extend it for 6 months in China.
Option two: go to HK to get l visa. now L can be changed to 6 month F visa without leaving China, but the cost is a little bit more than F visa extension.
Since you already have z visa, why don't you change it to other visa types. when you find new job in the near future, it really takes time to go through all the application procedure again,

How long do u plan to stay in China ? if u want to stay in China for a long time , I suggest you had better to keep your visa .
Solution 1：You can convert your visa to L visa , one month only . Convert to F visa is not available now.You must leave the China if your L visa expiry .
Solution 2: U can apply for F invitation letter b4 ur visa expiry date , u hold it to go to China Embassy in HK or ur country , u will get F visa .

how do you convert the expiring z visa into a 1 month L visa? does it cost anyhthing?

valid Z can be changed to a one month L, but its not suggested if you wanna stay in China longer, as L changed from Z canot b extended or convered.
You'd better go out of China to get either L or F visa and back do the convertion of L-F 3/6months or extension of F-F 3/6/12months.

"Conversion" is an incorrect term. The procedure is to cancel your existing visa and get a new 30 day L visa. It is very simple. You need your bank book showing that you have 20,000 in your local account (didn't have to "freeze" the account or anything like that when I did this). Other than that you just need the regular documents, like your photo and the visa form.
The 30 day extension is from the day you apply, so if you're trying to get the most time possible in the country then you'll want to apply as late as you safely can.

What's your nationality?
I have to remind you this converted L visa from work visa can't extend and convert any more.When this L visa expire,you have to leave China.
