Tape sales are actually quite stable and increasing in many places. I like tape.... sounds warm, not blocky and in the studio use some pretty advanced gear to replicate tape "saturation".

Also tapes outlast cd's particularly in humid climates when cd ink/backing will break down.

Quite a lot of punk/metal stuff (50+ albums and "live" performances) has come in on tape from Indy labels that never released on vinyl, tape heads are re-aligned, its extracted, filtered then sent off to the Czech Republic for pressing to vinyl or back on to tapes.
