Had visa cancelled, trying to re-enter
So, question -
About a year ago I got picked up by the cops in the Tibetan areas in Sichuan and, when I told them I wasn't a reporter (I'm not) they told me that the F visa I'd got through a travel agency in Chengdu constituted "buying and selling visas", canceled it, and gave me seven days to leave the country.
Now, I've been living in China on and off since I was sixteen, I considered it home. I've heard of people having their visas canceled and being able to re-enter China; if I apply for a visa now will I get it? When I fill out the form it asks, "Have you ever been deported (遣送) from China? Do you have a criminal record (犯罪记录)in China?" So far as I understand the english definition of those words, I wasn't deported, but I might have been found guilty of a crime (getting a visa through a travel agency) and I'm guessing the definitions are probably different as applies to the Chinese exit-entry system. Has anybody done anything like this before or know anything about it? I had wanted to live permanently in China, but if I can't do that I have to start re-thinking my life...

Usually if one is formally deported, you are escorted to the exit point, and a big "deported" stamp will be put in your passport. Sounds like you weren't deported. Sounds like they didn't want to go to the trouble of charging you formally with some sort of crime. However, it is possible that there is some record of the cancellation circumstances in the PSB computers now. I think you can answer those form questions as "No" but that doesn't mean your application will come up completely clean. Can you get a new passport issued, especially if you are from a country that issues a whole new passport #? Then try reapplying--you won't really know until you actually try to get a new visa.

You'll never know until you try.
If denied a visa, sometimes getting a new passport will help. Sometimes it will not as they also go by DOB and name. If you can get a legal name change and a new passport, you can probably consider it a sure thing.

Re: Had visa cancelled, trying to re-enter
Well, I think the point is that it's kind of a flip-up, and therefor I can't really plan to live in China. I mean, if they give me a visa, then great, I can live there for a few months, but every time I apply for the next one I have to flip that coin again. Not something you want to plan your life on.
I have a new passport; So do you think I'd be better off checking one of those boxes and explaining what happened? Or should I just not say anything and hope they don't find out?

Re: Had visa cancelled, trying to re-enter
You don't understand.
1. You were NOT deported.
2. You were NOT convicted of a criminal offense.
I can guarantee you that if you check any of the boxes their is a 99.9999999% chance you will be refused a visa.
If on a new passport you get a visa once, chances are you will not be denied for subsequent visas.

Re: Had visa cancelled, trying to re-enter
Phyllisli - Yeah, that's what happened. It says "Has seven days to leave China" and a (*) for visa type. But I have a new passport now and that visa isn't in there, so... Was your friend able to re-enter on that same passport?

Re: Had visa cancelled, trying to re-enter
hi there,
As what ive known from PSB, u canot do extension in 6months, but u still can enter China with a new visa, doesnot matter about passport, even u change a new passport, they still have all the records in it.
That's how my friend do, go get L visa n stay in China, u canot extend L in 6months since u got the "*". after 6months, ul b able to do visa like others.
And Im helping a client with that in May, u can contact me later at pleechina@gmail.com if u need more info.
Good luck.

Re: Had visa cancelled, trying to re-enter
Hmm. I'm less concerned with extending the visa than with just getting a new one at all - but your friend was granted a new visa after having his new one canceled?

Re: Had visa cancelled, trying to re-enter
yep, sure, u still can get a new visa. she got her L visa easily in Chinese embassy in her country, u shouldn't have that problem. but to extend it or change it to other types of visa to stay longer in China, u canot do in 6months but go out to get a new one.
Good luck.
