visiting spouse L visa question

I am a US citizen who has been living in BJ for almost 20 years. I am going to take a break from work for a year or so and do some traveling and writing. I have been married to a Chinese citizen for 18 of those 20 years. I rarely leave China (never for more than a month or so each year). So I will make a short trip to HK to cancel my work related RP and get a L visa to re-enter with. Back in Beijing when I apply for the visiting spouse L visa, can I get it for five years, as I once read somewhere here on these pages? Has the standard max time for a regular visiting family L been upped from one year to two years, as I heard rumored from someone? I am not interested at this point in applying for a PR status, although I am certain I meet most if not all the requirements. Too lazy and have no need. Leaving the rat race for a while to do something I have always wanted to do. I've earned it!

Re: visiting spouse L visa question

hi,
I don't think this is a good solution. You can get spouse L visa and extend it many times, but you have to leave mainland once you have stayed a whole year. The standard max time for a regular visiting family L is still one year.
I know you want to take a break for one year or so ,you can extend your spouse L visa for one year, after that,if you want to work, you can convert your L visa to Z visa.
Enjoy your spare time.

Once back in Beijing, you can extend the visa for 1 year. It can be renewed annually without your leaving China mainland.
I knew someone who didn't leave for about 4 years with visiting-relative L visas.

You'd better consider it since the Permanent residence permit is 10-year long and able to be renewed. You can definitely benefit from it. At least, you don't need to remind yourself of renewing visas each year. Then you can do what you want in 10 years' and longer time.

Re: visiting spouse L visa question

I still wonder why a spouse of a chinese national still has to apply for a work permit... >__<

Re: visiting spouse L visa question

I already know I can renew a family L visa for as many times as I want without leaving China. In fact, if I retire here, this is what I will use long term as long as this regulation does not change. My question was more this: since I have been here longer than 5 years and for all of those years have not been out of country for longer than three months, can I get a visiting family L visa that is longer than one year? I am not talking about the PR status that is granted for either 5 or ten years. I don't have the time for getting the PR at the moment. Perhaps later The L will do just fine for now. I once heard a rumor about a longer term visiting family L visas for people here for longer periods. Maybe it was just that. A rumor.

Re: visiting spouse L visa question

Hi don't listen to the other visa agents on this site. We can give you a high quality 25 year visa extension for just 1 yuan. We have offices in Zhongnanhai and The Great Hall of the People and our information booth is just as you pass Mao Zedong's coffin.

Do not fail to visit us.

Re: visiting spouse L visa question

Can a visa agent help me to get a one year spousal L visa. I've been married to a Chinese person for 4 years, but the province where we live and where the hukou is in (xinjiang) doesn't issue a one year visa.

thanks
